The Swift Epic 686 (8'6 line 6, 3 pces), fast glass blank is a wonderful tool for those applications. I couldnb't be happier with mine.

Under 8' or 8'6, you can find very good "cheap" rod. As an exemple, I have a Winston Passport in 8'6 line 4 and it's a great smooth rod. Things become more complex with longer rods and powerful rods.
