Power vs finesse should not be in the same thread. Lol

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

Can we just order the screws or does the configuration no longer lends itself to this simple requirement. I would like the option to swap spools quickly post bad backlash or just wanting to change from mono to braid. Break adjustment not so much a concern considering the size baits I'm chucking with...

Re: Introducing TackleTour's FPI-Fluorocarbon Performance In

That's interesting and no I don't recall. I have problems remembering yesterday's lunch. Lol

Is this because Fluoro doesn't absorb water? That makes the most sense.

Re: Introducing TackleTour's FPI-Fluorocarbon Performance In

You guys have way too much time on your hands but glad some one is doing it. Always glad to see the manufacturers being kept honest. I'm also of the opinion wet results are more important than dry and most interested in how Fluoro recovers once stretched. Specially how useful it remains after ...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

This D is starting to grow on me. Got my own non demo 401 D a few weeks ago and finally got a chance to take it out today for a few hours. I was very impressed and was casting Hudd 68s 30 plus yards into a stiff cross wind and 8" Triple Trout 40 plus yards into the same cross wind and cleared 5...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

Got the demo reels yesterday and spent some time throwing the 300 last night and the 400 this morning. I like the reels and although they felt smooth, I think that bearings in place of bushings may make it even smoother. Just didn't feel like it was all it could be. Something that could be remedied ...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

I'm the first one to call a manufacturer out when they pull something stupid like repainting the Curado E and calling it the Chronarch E or claiming to revolutionize the Steez plus a $120 price increase when it only got a paint job and porting tweak. I also understand cost go up because the dollar i...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

I recall when the Z2020 came out and most felt it wasn't a worthy pirchase be wise it weighted like a tank. What they failed to appreciate was that it was built to be a tank. I think we're seeing the same issues with the D. It fits my focus because I favor large robust reels capable of handling the ...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

Are the American buyers really that concerned with price, to the point they'll ignore a more robust offering because it's above a certain price point? Wouldn't Shimano/Daiwa benefits from catering to those of us, that just must have the best and within reason, cost is not an issue. Are we so few tha...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

Decisions are my biggest issue therefore I just ordered both from TW through their demo program. Supposedly the 301/401 are available tomorrow. I'm stoked and should have these puppies on the water the following weekend. An end to speculation and time for some real time experience. No Armageddon to ...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

.. or can I go with the higher IPT 301. I'm thinking 5.1 is better but that extra line pickup could prove beneficial on a long cast. Without looking at the actual line pick up spec, keep in mind the 400 may have a lower gear ratio , but it also has a larger diamenter spool. So your actual IPT is pr...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

That's the kind info I've been seeking and was wrongly assuming. I was starting to think the D was just an upgraded B and that's not the case. For my intended lures, would you recommend the 401 or can I go with the higher IPT 301. I'm thinking 5.1 is better but that extra line pickup could prove ben...

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

The more I think about my actual on the water use the less I care about VBS access and actually prefer the solid approach as I have for a decade with my Trinidads. My sole concern is the gearing. Is this powerful enough to endure 8 hour days cranking large resistance baits like a 3:16 Armagedon or B...

Re: Shimano Calcutta D vs Calcutta 12

I was stoked about getting the D but the more I learn the more I'm thinking I'll wait to see if a new TE comes out. I like the new changes on the B but not crazy about paying TE prices without TE gears. I can live without the side plate since the baits I'm going to throw may not be as affected but a...

Re: Not Built to Suffer Fools Gladly : Daiwa's Z200/Z2020

It's about time. Lol The one gripe most have is the lack of 5:1 as offered in the Pluton/Ryoga. If intended to throw big baits then you need power to pull them back. Hopefully 2012 is the year something gets done about that. Also, any disadvantages seen to having a big bait reel without a synchroniz...
