Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
And I'm actually hoping that for the 300/400 sizes, they don't go as extreme as they did with the calcutta d spool.

Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
Any idea yet how the dimensions of that spool compare to the spool in the 200D? I got to play with the conquest for a bit but didn't have a 200D to compare it to. Spool does look closer to the 200D than the old TE or CQ.

Re: calcutta te 400 handle
It is. You can put a Luna handle on a 400TE.

Re: Trebles bending out, need advice
In your case, I'd have to agree with the others advice. Those single hooks should be the best bet for you. I don't know how much, if any, trouble you'll have hooking every bite, but I don't know how to avoid bending small trebles on big hard running fish. There are a few baits I have to use smaller ...

Re: Trebles bending out, need advice
I've started to use some more mustad hooks. They have a 3x hook out now with the "kvd" type bend in larger sizes for musky, and I also like their regular 3x ultrapoint. The 2x round bend gamakatsus and the bronze round bends are great hooks. I've had more problems with owner trebles in the last year...

Re: Trebles bending out, need advice
There are only like 30-40 entries. Mostly owner. I'll see if I can just convert it to a PDF tomorrow and post a link here.

Re: Trebles bending out, need advice
Yea I weighed them. I don't care for the stx-58. I don't see the advantage to using them. They aren't lighter, they are perhaps less prone to bending, but I've broken one. The price is a little ridiculous. I don't really like the bend of the hook either. As for whether or not they are the same size,...

Re: Trebles bending out, need advice
It seems like I remember reading somewhere that even though Owner claims the 58's don't weigh more than some of their "weaker" size trebles that they in fact do. I can't remember where I read it but the guy had pics of different Owner trebles on a digital scale as proof. Could've been on one of the...

Re: new zillion
Looks like the TWS Zillion has almost identical internals to the Tatula. Looks like the same amount of plastic in the clutch and gears. Also, if you wanted to put an Aluminum handle side plate on the new Zillion, the one from your Tatula should fit nicely. Only if the Tatula side plate has the abil...

They're taking the old Max and Endurance series and replacing them both with the single line of the new green Max series.

Re: New fad? Carbon tape
Are rods with the 45deg bias lighter than the conventional rods? I've noticed K2s are lighter than say an UMBX ( and just about anything else) of the same line class but that could depend on taper and composition That would depend entirely on the manufacturers purpose for using the db wrap. You can...

Re: New fad? Carbon tape
But a blank is not a solid piece of graphite. A blank is layer up on layer of carbon fibers. Don't look at the double bias +/-45 fibers on a megabass XX or the quad fibers on the X4 or K2 as though they're added to the blank. They are part of the blank design. And typically when you're dealing with ...

Re: New fad? Carbon tape
Why did Shimano, Abu Garcia, and others re-launch their most popular freshwater rods with spiral wrapped carbon tape? They chose to do this the exact same year, I don't get it. Did the price of carbon go down or? Please help me come up with pros and cons of spiral wrapping a rod in carbon tape: Pro...

Little brass or copper washer (can't remember off the top of my head) that rides between the brake race assembly and the nylon gears there. I don't oil it. I ...

I just stumbled across this. Came here looking for more info. Looks like a beast of a rod.
