the reason why the star will not screw down, at least on mine is the handle has deformed the thread on the recessed part of the shaft. you can file the ruined part of the shaft so the star would screw nicely.

you can use a wrench or plier to prevent the shaft from turning, I just use the handle.

Black Max ony has 2 b/bearings on the spool + 1 roller bearing/IAR bearing. You can always swap the 2 worm shaft plastic bushing to b/bearing size 3x7x3. Better if you can get the gear plate of promax which include another b/bearing.

Bronzeye thanks for the help! Another question: there are supposed to be 3 bearings - I can find the AR bearing and one spool bearing on the right side of the spool... Where the heck is the third? I can't tell where it is on the parts diagram and can't find anything that looks like a bearing inside...
