I have a citica 200e that needs a new gearset. Is it still available?

Will the Calais 100A gearset fit Curado 100D?

I have the Curado 100D that I really like but the gears are aluminum and eventually go bad when fished in saltwater. Ive already gone through more than one set already and am using the last set I have. I checked on Shimano's parts site and discovered that ALL the gears for those type reels are disco...

Re: Rod cleaning Tips?

I actually prefer the unfinished graphite look so I wont paint it. I find rods really hard to paint, at least as far as getting anything that's half way durable. I hear that automotive paint works pretty good. I actually taped on some guides and took it out on the bay to test it. I even caught a sma...

Re: Rod cleaning Tips?

That rod looks like its in pretty good shape, except for some pitting on the cork. You could probably just sand it down and not have to do anything else. If the guides are still intact you could take it out fishing right now(weather permitting) :D. Mine was an 8ft Carrot Stick Gold with a Calcutta 4...

Re: Rod cleaning Tips?

I would stick with using the CLR since vinegar is much weaker. Whatever damage was done was from the rod soaking in the water all that time. The rod blank itself should ok with the CLR. Pretty neat idea using a pvc pipe. I actually found a rod and reel like you did but mine was in salt water (San Di...

Re: Rod cleaning Tips?

I was going to suggest that you try vinegar first. I believe CLR is a very strong acid--but since it knocked off all that crud it did its job. I would think that you would probably have to strip the rod down to the bare blank and re-wrap it. I assume the handle is ruined after all that time in the w...

Re: How do you palm a baitcasting reel?

Fatigue is definitely a big problem for me. I find myself constantly changing my grip as the day wears on. I've actually thought about learning to use left handed reels just to change things up :( .

Re: Curado 100B spool/drag won't engage? HELP!!!

You mentioned that the reel engages when you turn the handle but you have no drag pressure. Are you sure the pinion is dropping down and locking with the spool? It may not be engaging all the way and you could be still be stuck in free spool. If that's the case then it could be a bad/missing yoke sp...

Re: Powder Coating vs Anodizing

Actually, I'm not sure if you need to completely remove the anodizing before you powder coat. I guess if the anodizing is too smooth the powder coat wouldn't stick as well. It is a surface coating after all. I'm mostly worried about left-over paint residue bubbling when you "bake" the powder coat. I...

Re: Powder Coating vs Anodizing

I did powder coat an old BPS reel(just the frame though) and it turned out good. Think of it as spray painting without using any solvents. You can put on a very thin coat that will show the fine details on a reel. It's so tough people use it on farm equipment. It sticks to aluminum. I don't know if ...

What size screws for Curado 50e?

I was going to replace the 3 small screws on my 50e with socket head screws. What size screws are they? Are they M2? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Favorite curado series? *poll*

I have only fished the D and E series(all 4 reels). I really like the 50e a whole bunch, especially with an Avail spool for ultra-light casting.

Re: Bearing upgrades,waste of money?

I fall into the group that doesn't spend any money on bearing upgrades. Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying the benefits of smoother and more expensive bearings. It's just that so many other factors affect casting performance. I mean, a faster spinning spool doesn't directly translate into a longer ...

Re: NRX not aging well

I don't own an NRX but I do wrap rods. A lot of people don't realize that the epoxy used on the threads will yellow when exposed to sunlight(UV). This is really noticeable with certain color threads. What does this mean? If a rod needs a new guide and it's wrapped with blue thread, then the wrap is ...

Re: Non-disengaging level wind for drag?

I think that synchronized drag and level wind is only critical when fighting fish that can make long sustained runs, something like a small tuna or bonito. That's when you really begin to appreciate having your line come off the spool evenly. The rest of the time, the fish I catch don't pull nearly ...
