Re: Mexico Day and Half Tuna Trip

I used this same rod to land 11 yellowtails (5lbs-20lbs), 6 dorado (10lbs-20lbs) and 1 bluefin tuna (28lbs) this past summer/fall out of San Diego. I was using an Abu Garcia Revo Toro 60 backed with 50lb braid and short topshots of 15lb-25lb Seaguar Premier flouro. I also hooked up to a striped marl...

Re: Fresh water rods for inshore?

I have used my Dobyns rods inshore all summer long. Worked great!

Re: Product Insight on new Calcutta's

I purchased a Calcutta 400D about a month ago and am absolutely loving it! I am using it specifically to cast swimbaits and works fantastic. I have had no need to open the reel up to switch the brakes around. I do that on light weight baits depending on wind conditions. Even then I rarely do it. For...

Re: Help me decide Recon or Champion

I would like to add that the customer service of Dobyns is second to none both from a pre-sales and post-sales perspective.

Re: Help me decide Recon or Champion

I have quite a few Phenix and Dobyns rods. I fish the Phenix Black Diamond and Black Diamond Hybrid saltwater rods for yellowtail/tuna and love them. For bass fishing (salt & fresh) I use the Dobyns rods. Both rod companies are top quality. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Re: heat damaged Fluorocarbon

Fourocarbon and prolonger exposure to sunlinght/heat do not mix well. I have had issues with my flouro spools when left in the sun where it would break significantly lower than the stated rating due to becoming brittle. I only use short topshots of flouro from braid so I carry the spools with me. Ke...

Is the 300TE good for the large swimbaits if you are using braid?

Re: New U/L Rod, Any Recommendations?

Have you considered the Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner ? It doesn't have the glamour or fan base of a Loomis, but believe me, it's no slouch. The action on them is superb. Casts the lightest of baits very far, but has the backbone needed in the evnt you hook into something large. I regularly targe...

His prices on eBay look like standard retail. Am I missing something?

Re: Seaguar Tatsu

If you are making short topshots with braid, why not use Seaguar Premier?

Re: St Croix Panfish Rods

Are you tying the Nanofil braid directly to the jigs for trout or using a flouro topshot?

Re: Anyone else using braid exclusively?

I have over 35 reels. Every single one of them has braid. Most are filled all the way to the top and either tied straight to the braid or use a short flouro leader.

Those BPS Microlites look pretty tempting especially for the price. I may have to buy one and check it out. Thanks!
