Re: Pixy vs alphas bfs reel

I'm not sure, I think the version 1, the shallower version? Karl? I have the version 2. I think version 1 was a bit deeper. To this day my favourite spool is the version 2 KTF nothing comes close so far. Mr. Sawamura hit a sweet spot with that Alphas. The kosugi works is a great all round finesse s...

Re: Pixy vs alphas bfs reel

I would say they're pretty similar based on my experience, but that KTF was really sweet. Depends how much you're prepared to pay for a very minor improvement. The cosugi is 90% as good as the KTF from my experience.

45m of 6 or 8lb mono is going to limit it's usefulness. Air stream custom type line capacity.

9:1? Ugh. Finesse fishing is usually about slow!

Re: Daiwa Project T 2020

haha his last fish " if this reel wasnt 10:1 i would have missed that fish" It makes me sick to think of all the fish I have missed out on over the years because I didn't have a 10:1. Probably lost a bunch of club tournaments to. :( There's a line between promoting your sponsors and mak...

Re: Ned Rod

How about a MXF? They always seem to fish half a power lighter to me, but with more backbone. 5'10", 6'3", 6'8", 6'10" are some of the options.

Re: Pixy vs alphas bfs reel

I have a purple cosugo works spool in my 105SV and it does everything I could ask of it with baits down to a 2" fin s fish on a 1/16 head, which is as far as I want to go. I have it on a speedstyle light power, with the spliced tip and it's a nice versatile outfit with a bit more backbone. My friend...

They don't ship outside of North America, so that's a big fail for St Croix and Rod Geeks for me.

Re: Jbraid grand issues

I've not tried the grand, but the 8 and 4 strand J braids are loosely woven and unpleasant to use in my eyes. Cheap is cheap.

Re: Eliminating Backlash on Strong Casts

Were you still getting the mid cast backlashes? The cast distance is probably due to the bait and rod combination. Stiff rod and light wind resistant bait isn't going to go a mile. Try this. Get a 3oz sinker and try casting with that. It will cast really easily and you will get the sinker a good dis...

Re: Taking spooled reels on flights...

I have had to take reels out of carry on too, so I always check them now. Not worth the hassle. No idea what they imagine you're going to do with a reel full of line, they must think we're all Steven Segal!

Re: Eliminating Backlash on Strong Casts

I would think the 30lb Samurai is way too thin if you're trying to cast a 1.5oz bait hard. It may be bedding in on the spool when you give it the extra power in the cast. Samurai is very over rated for it's diameter compared to most other brands, Spiderwire is the same. If you want to stick to Samur...

Re: Help me decide, panfish reel.

Surely a new Alphas Air is more than 50 bucks? Don't understand your reasoning. If you've got an Alphas SV with a rays spool, you know what that will do. Alphas Air isn't as much of a finesse reel as the ASC.
