Re: lines for bfs setups

is that the Teton 552SUL? Is it a bass or trout taper? I have the Teton 662L and it is a mod-fast taper. I have that rod to and its a noodle no doubt but it will sling anything no matter how light. This rod loads with the weight of the rod alone so if your spool is light enough this thing will slin...

St Croix Mojo Inshore for BFS fishing

I just ordered the 7' L moderate action and 7' ML Moderate action Mojo Inshore rods to use for Bait Finesse fishing, does anyone have any experiences with these rods ? I know St Croix is on the light side when it comes to power and action so I thought this might be a good rod for making long cast wi...

Re: SS Air or 16 Aldebaran BFS

I have the Alphas the SS and Aldebaran BFS, they are all fine reels but the Daiwa's cast and retrieve much quieter and smoother for the most part. The Aldebaran will cast further with 3g and above because Daiwa's Air brakes are over braked and hold them back but for the light stuff under 2.5G I thin...

Re: lines for bfs setups

Decided to try out suffix nanobraid 2 lb. line is thin! That's some small line .04mm, it may find itself wrapped around the spool shaft easily but should also cast crazy far as well. That was my first thought, I wonder if the tolerances are better/worse on that aftermarket spool (assuming Avail)???...

Re: lines for bfs setups

I Use Gliss, powerPro Braid and Fireline Crystal. The 12lb Gliss is on my SS Air and Aldebaran with Avail spool and its cast awesome but if you rub against anything it will break before any other line would. The FireLine crystal 6lb I have on my Alphas Air cast much better than expected with very re...

Re: Getting back into BFS

The Revo ROXANI BF8 can usually be had for around $130 and the Kuying TTC-662L is a fine rod that could keep you in your budget. The St Croix Panfish Rod is really nice rod as well if you want a USDM rod.

Re: What’s your Finesse spinning rod?

I Generally throw everything on a baitcasters but when I do use a spinning reel for Finesse fishing I use my Shimano Sahara FI 2500 spooled with 10lb PowerPro Slick 8 line with a 6 or 8lb Fluoro leader on a Fenwick Elite Tech Bass 6’9” medium fast action rod.

I just purchased a Alphas from Japan Lure Shop $255 shipped, looking forward to fishing it soon.

Re: SS Air or 16 Aldebaran BFS

Hmmm. Abbor, if the exact braking mechanism is of great import to you, then you should browse other threads here (if you havent already done so). Some report that the SS air has a moving inductor and others that it doesnt. http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=80351&hilit=Daiwa+brake The D...

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

The Abu Alc bf7 seems to be a casting machine. Using the abovementioned “BFS” rod (1.5-18 gram lure rating) and a 2.6 gram spoon I challenged the 7 m/s or 15-16 mph wind head on. I had to set the brakes hard-ish, close to max, but still got 20 meter casts with no backlash. I will have to test the r...

Re: Alphas air stream custom

I don't have an ASC but one look at that spool tells me that it struggles to hold enough line for 1/8oz inline spinners. The linear mag brake probably isn't the best thing either for aerodynamic 1/8+ oz baits either. It strikes me as a reel meant for the lighter weight UL baits that are difficult t...
