I've used that knot forever for salt water, but never tried it for drop shotting for bass. Hmm......

Re: How small Will Reels Get?

Assuming that the issue of durability isn't a problem, will the actual material not used represent a significant enough saving to make the more intricate manufacturing involved worth while, or is this all just a gimmick, a smaller/lighter marketing ploy?

Re: How small Will Reels Get?

I dunno. smaller, lighter, faster, stronger...these traits may or may not always translate to "better" but, they do translate to "improved" and "improved" is just one more way of gaining market share. as I've stated before...this is how we wind up with '58 chevy's after we've tasted the 57's. And t...

Re: Help: Issues with leader knot

I use the Albright, and only wrap one way, not double. I only use max. 10 wraps. The key, for me, is to wet the line, and pull the line and tag end equally. I do this by holding the fluoro in one hand, and the main line of the braid in the other, and the braid tag end in my teeth. Slow steady pressu...

Re: Sunline super fluoro

My experience with Sunline Sniper is that it is very unforgiving. It will break if kinked.

Re: Light braid for casting?

I've used Stren Braid for years. Funny, but it cast better in lighter strengths on my older reels that aren't so "super". Maybe the faster spool speeds with the newer reels encourage backlashes.

Re: Bass Pro xps fc

Ive used the BPS and Sunline. Bought a bunch of BPS FC on sale last year. Its good stuff and would buy it again if i didnt have enough already. X2 It's as good as most stuff out there, doesn't break when you accidentally cast with a trapped loop rubbing on the frame like Sunline, and is priced righ...

Re: How small Will Reels Get?

At what point will the gear material not be strong enough? If the main gear is smaller in overall diameter, the pinion gear would have to be smaller to maintain the same gear ratios. The smaller the gears, the finer the teeth have to be to maintain smoothness and to reduce wear. Will there be a fini...

Re: How small Will Reels Get?

I would have thought that the size of the gears would be the limiting factor. "It's a matter of leverage", according to Captn. Jack Sparrow.

Re: Broken Lew's reel handle

Funny how a little thing like a drag star can make such a difference. I have taken fine wet and dry sand paper to the ends of a star on a reel because they were so sharp they were uncomfortable.
I even notice it when I was fishing with it, and just brushed up against it.

Re: Broken Lew's reel handle

The equipment I have now is so good, I can't see me upgrading any time soon, unless someone is giving those reels away.

Re: Broken Lew's reel handle

I haven't seen the updated Pro yet, so I don't know if the brakes are the same as the BB1, but I like the brakes on the reels I bought.

Re: Broken Lew's reel handle

I just got off the phone with Lew's, and they are sending me a new handle, free. Plus they are upgrading it to the 85mm handle that comes on the newer Pro series. I guess they have had issues with this handle before.
Great customer service.
Thank you Alison.
