Re: Impulse Purchase - CL201DC

I own a Calais 201, but not the DC reel. I was at my local shop today and had a CL-201DC, brand new in box. Definitely the DC model because of the... DC in the title! Incredible reel and fantastic purchase! Can do absolutely everything and handle almost all freshwater species (no sturgeon ](*...

Re: Best Cranking Reel?

Calcutta DC100 is my favorite. I'll second that although I have the 200 sized reel. Still hoping for a 250 size. I have my 200DC paired with a Cumara Deep Crank 7'0". Also, the Calcutta TE200GT is by far the strongest "bass" reel I've ever used. The Chronarch 100BPV was pretty close but when tossin...

Rapala R-Type 7'2" MHF 2 piece Casting Rod

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago and lent it to my buddy for a trip down south. Worked well for him fishing plastics for largemouth. I loved the review about it ( http://tackletour.com/reviewrapalartype.html ) and decided to take the plunge when I saw it (at a steal of a price as well). Anybody ...

Re: NRX 822

Love the 822 DSR and used one a few times before finally buying my own back in December/January. Can't wait to sue it again this summer!

The 822 SYR looks interesting. Played around with it a few times. If it's that great for Erie... I may have to pick one up!

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

Ok thanks for the clarification. I've never heard of that setup.

Usually, it goes backing, shooting line, shooting head, tip, leader/tippet.

I'm going to try that out!

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

On the 8wt rods: 30' T-11 head with Airflo Ridge Running Line for the fast sinking line. Rio Outbound Short for Intermediate line. Probably pull the trigger on a OBS S3 line soon. On the 9wt rods: 28' T-14 head with Airflo Ridge Running line for the fast sinking line. Rio OBS for Intermediate & Flo...

Re: Nrx vs Glx

Nothing wrong with rep samples! My very first GLX (BCR893GLX) was a rep sample and still no problems with it to this day... back to the topic!

Congrats on the NRX! I'm sure you'll love it! I've got the 895 but haven't tested it yet hopefully in March on some stripers!

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

For what I do, I'd have to say it is either the NRX Saltwater or Sage Xi3. Really difficult to pick between the 8wt or 9wt. Usually, I can get away with an 8wt with about 315 -330gr heads. When the wind is up, which it often is, it is much easier to go to the 9wt. Are you using the Rio Outbound Sho...

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

Just picked up the 8wt Method. Hoping to get into a few fish with it Tuesday. :D Just read an online review and it said the 8 wt. fishes better with a 9 wt. line! NRX 9 wt. or Method 8 wt. to tackle the saltwater inshore duties. Was about to pull the trigger on the 9' 9 wt. Method or 11'9" 7 wt. Me...

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

All of mine  but if I had to pick one... my Sage One 13'6" 8 wt. An incredible rod that is powerful, light and sensitive. Just got into the two-hand game last summer for a trip out East after attending a spey casting instruction clave the Fall before. Unfortunately I only got to take it out...

Re: Calais 200DC smoothing out?

I've had mine now for almost four years... still smooth after handling hard running steelhead and salmon.

Might be something wrong with it.

Re: My Line Up is finally complete!…yea right..

Awesome setups! Would love to see the pics! I bought my buddy that QUANTUM SWIMBAIT SPECIAL a few years back for his birthday (we always do a trip up north to celebrate and enjoy the opening weekend of the bass season) and he had it rigged with a senko and his first fish on it was a 6 lb. walleye! I...

Re: Jika rig

Love the rig but the tungsten version was $12.99-13.99 when they first came out so I only bought one pack. Favourite bait for is a 5" swim senko. Unfortunately had a pike steal one from me and the other a bass swallowed it right down and didn't make it  but kept him for table and got it back wh...
