More than a couple in my first 55 years. I'm beginning to understand that the door frame may be part of the equation.

Re: Berkley NanoFil

When I look through a screen door I don't see the screen, only what's beyond. I'd guess that if the line were thin enough bass wouldn't notice it but only what was beyond as the screen door. This is probably true for virtually every line... diameter is a key ingredient in visibility.

Re: Line color, what's your preference and does it make a di

Hi-vis... it makes a great deal of difference if I can see it or not. IF I feel the bass care I'll use a fluoro leader.

Re: Berkley NanoFil

MDisbrow... I suspect using a larger quantity of smaller diameter fibers in a bundle will achieve a rounder and smoother bundle. Although I'm not convinced that "rounder" and "smoother" catches more fish, it does seem to be what all the chatter on these forums is about.

Re: Persistent problem with braid in spinning tackle

Braids are not created equal. Try Fireline on one of your Penn reels and see if it behaves better. If it doesn't spool the Fireline on a new reel.

Re: cutting braided line

Toe nail clippers will give better leverage than finger nail clippers.

Serrated scissors work better than non-serrated scissors.

Re: Abu 4600, how easy?

I've fished a 4601 with the bearing mods you've indicated for several years. There are a lot of things i like this reel for, but throwing very light baits is not one of them. I find there is too much spool inertia to effectivly throw light baits. Paying the listed price for those mods seems pretty s...

Re: Smoothness

Sorry for the poorly written first post. My intended point is smoothness is not an important factor when choosing braided line.

Smoothness

I hear numerous anglers recommending one brand of braided line over another based upon smoothness. I'm concerned with strength, diameter, roundness, suppleness, color, cost and now maybe whether or not it is heavy enough to sink; but smoothness doesn't play any part in my purchase decision.

Re: New Berkley Nanofil

I haven't read anything that indicates this line is supposed to have sinking characteristics. I too would like to see the FluoroBraid made in a hi-vis coloration.

Hypothetical strength?

Given equal total mass, is a line stronger when woven with more fibers or woven with fewer fibers?

Re: Spiderwire Ultracast Flouro Braid

I can't seem to bring myself to try it! What bothers me about it (as well as Sufix 832) is my thought that if the new Gore strands were as strong as Dyneema and had all the claimed advantages over Dyneema then why aren't they making a line entirely of Gore fibers? If the Gore fibers aren't as strong...

Re: What is your favorite fishing knot

Trilene -- terminal knot with fluoro or nylon monofilament lines
Palomar -- terminal knot with braids
Alberto -- joining monofilament leaders to braid mainlines
Double Uni -- joining smaller braid leaders to larger braid mainlines
