Re: Filling a baitcast reel

Norman and others are correct who have stated that a more fully filled baitcaster will cast a bit farther. Think about it as a lever that when the line is being pulled off the reel, a fuller spool means the line is farther away from the center of the rotation, so it is analogous to using a wrench wi...

Re: The biggest B.S. ever

Well, first, the video and its viewer replies certainly indicate Aaron is talking about a braid backer, not a braid main line with a standard fluorocarbon leader. And, if it did mean the other, it doesn't, what would be the point in demonstrating what others have already been doing: mono backers, br...

Re: Sunline Assassin

It's a new method of bonding the resins comprising fluorocarbon as best I can tell. The net effect is supposedly to make the line hardier, last longer. For sure, they have been lab testing the line for some time now but it will be up to anglers to reel it on and see how it works in real world fishin...

Re: sniper 5 #

I just read a report where Aaron Martens had placed high at a big event, that he had good success with 6 but dropped to 5 "to get more bites" or words to that effect. I'd stay light . . . get more bites and manage the retrieve carefully if you hook into a heavyweight. Speaking of fish winding you up...

Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty

I'm a natural lefty but like most left-handed people, a bit ambidextrous. For both casting and spinning reels, I cast with my dominant left hand, and reel with my right. It seems more natural to me to want to cast and fight fish with your more powerful side, then reel with the off hand. Most of the ...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

Sure, one can always break off a fish too large for the line being used. It means very little since we never know what the fish actually weighed. Hard to tell just looking. I got tangled up the other day, pulled on the line . . . and it broke off at my uni-to-uni knot. I tie a new knot before each o...

Re: Your top 3 soft plastics

Roboworms . . . straight tail, for drop shotting
Grande Bass . . . 4.75" rattlesnakes for light split shot/ weightless techniques/Texas Rigs, etc.
Yamamoto Senkos . . . most applications. They are expensive but they command that price because they work and are very high quality.

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

I took your advice and tied on a fluorocarbon leader. I used 8 lbs. test Seagur Invisx and I like it very much. I now have the mono backing on from what I was using before the Nanofil, Sufix Elite 8 lbs., and about half my arbor beginning with that. If slippage is a real problem, I have eliminated a...

Re: Hooks in ringed or ribbed worms

On a regular full bodied worm, I still skin hook it but after I have penetrated the worm in its middle. I have a partner who leaves the hook embedded in the middle of the plastic but I think one gets a better hook set if all the bass has to do is break the point loose from a very tiny thin piece of ...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

Well, yes, something really large is going to be an issue. But, it is always like that when one fishes "finesse" and limits rod power and line size. You risk losing a really large fish for enhancing the odds of catching more fish. And, no matter what knot or leader material one ties onto 12 lbs. Nan...

Hooks in ringed or ribbed worms

Gosh, I had just about given up on two sources of the plastic worms with the concentric rings on an otherwise skinny main body. Texas rigging through the nose, then down marking the proper penetration through that skinny midsection area then skin hooking through a few of the rings? Well, it just tea...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

I'll take a look at the FG knot. But, just running straight up using the 3 loops through the hook eye then an Improved San Diego knot, I have had no break off issues though fishing has been slow with all of the new water on the lakes I fish. But, two more trips, one each day over the weekend and I s...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

Brian, thanks! I just got back from a local lake, not known for great bass fishing, but I caught a couple on the Nanofil. What I think I will do is continue "leadereless" for a time if for no other reason than to give the knot I am using a thorough test. If it develops issues, I'll have no issue tyi...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

I use Nanofil 12 lbs. test on a Shimano Stradic 2500 Ci4+ and a 7' medium St. Croix rod. I likely would have bought 8 or 10 test if it were available at the time I was at the store. I kept the previous line, Sufix Elite mono on as a backer, tied a uni-to-uni knot to more Nanofil than I can cast, and...
