Re: Round vs Low Profile reels. Which one do you prefer?
Round reels get my vote. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure why I keep going back to round reels. There are so many more low-profile reels available at a much cheaper price. Maybe it's the old fashion feel and quality.

Re: Shimano sustain noise
Both of those issues are not normal. I would return it to the store where it was purchased and exchange it. Unless your real handy or have experience dismantling reels I wouldn't recommend fixing that yourself. If returning is not an option send it in to Shimano.

Shimano Calcutta TE . These reels are built like a tank and will last a lifetime if well maintained.

The all brass looks like a gold watch. The other two main gears look wet.
The pinions all glow!

Re: Best place to buy Daiwa Parts or Tuning?
Try Dave's parts and service, South western parts and service or The Reel Doctor in Canada. Plat will have a lot of parts you can't find in the states but expect to pay at least $40 to ship an order.

Re: Constant New Models Being Released by Manufacturers
Manufactures have been doing this for a long time. I can remember back in the 90s shimano changed the stradic and curado every few years. Watch the beginning of this video.

Re: Shimano Calcutta Conquest 200
I own both the 100 and 200 size and I can't think of anything bad to say other than the price. Both work great for cranking because of the low gear ratio and tremendous power they produce. I have used a 10xd on the 200 for 6+ hours without getting tired. It doesn't hurt that the conquest is probably...

Re: stainless steel gears
They were relying on the "hyper" marine bronze to be self lubricating on te stainless pinion - while strong it needs a specialist lubricant to keep it going better than it should on its own. Once that hyper gear goes to s**t big dollars are needed to replace... Very true, last time i checked plat.c...

Re: stainless steel gears
Manufactures don't use stainless steel because it's expensive and not as refined as brass. I used to own a Certate hyper custom with a bronze alloy main gear and stainless steel pinion. The gears made a lot of noise and it wasn't nearly as smooth as the regular Certate with the alloy main gear & bra...

Re: Met. MGL Micro Module Smoothness?
I wish they had like a skeletal style stainless gear, like an old train wheel. I would gladly take a few more ounces to have a nearly indestructible gear. I am sadly experiencing aluminum gear issues now... 2 Revo spinning reels, and my SS/SV. Stainless steel lasts too long, company's want us to bu...

Re: Met. MGL Micro Module Smoothness?
I wonder if brass is harder than aluminum, or more wear resistant, at least in gears. Maybe that's why almost all reels use brass pinion gears. They must hold up better than aluminum pinion gears. I have a couple of older baitcasters which seem to have both main and pinion gears out of a different ...

Re: Met. MGL Micro Module Smoothness?
I felt mine was ever so slightly gritty but not geary. Maybe it's the same thing on different ends of the scale. That is an accurate description. Beats me why they don't use brass for the gears. Everyone is obsessed with the weight of the reel, aluminum is lighter and just a few ounces can be a dea...
