The best way for a splitshot rig?
Is there any other way to rig up a "split shot rig" without using a split shot? I'm just not confident with squeezing a split shot to my 4lbs test and having it fail when I hook up to a 4 or 5 pounder. I'm actually looking for an easier or faster way to do it. Here is how im setting it up now 2 pegs...

The Jack Hook
Has anyone used this hook before? It looks really cool and easy to "not tie a knot, knot" and is it stronger than a palomar knot?

Re: Dobyns rod defects?
 I wasn't trying to start any problems on TT, I love this web site. I just had a small question about maybe i might of got a rod that might of been slipped by QA or was dropped at the tackle shop. I just don't know. But I called Dobyns and they said to send it to them and they will inspect the...

90% of my arsenal are also Dobyns and this is the first problem i ever had.

Dobyns rod defects?
Is it possible my Dobyns rod could or had a defect? Its a brand new rod with about 3 trips to the lake. I took it out today for some light Ika fishing and when I set the hook it snapped 16" down. I know there a warranty that will cost me $60 but its a NEW rod and it shouldn't break that easily. It j...

Re: Daiwa Pluton, Shimano Calcutta 401B or Shimano Calcutta
My daughter and I just got back from the local Tackle shop and im very impressed with the Pluton over the calcutta 301,401 and 201. I paired up the Pluton to a Dobyns swimbait rod and its "PERFECT" It just feels right. I spoke to the Shop guy/Fisherman he said that for what im doing 40lbs PP will be...

Re: Daiwa Pluton, Shimano Calcutta 401B or Shimano Calcutta
My buddy accidentally hooked up with a 25lb'er STRIPPEY and it almost spooled his curado 301 with 50 lb PP. All i did was watch and held the net. LOLcndbasshunter wrote:the 400 series is pretty huge for bass.
Forgot to mention it was foul hook by its gill plate.

Re: Daiwa Pluton, Shimano Calcutta 401B or Shimano Calcutta
I have used the Luna 253L and the Lexa 300HL for the big baits, up to 6 oz and haven't had any problems in doing so with both 65# and 80# braid. 9" Slammers, 10" Triple Trout, Hudds in every ROF, The Real Prey Bass and so on. I did just receive a Pluton 200HL the other day and it is sweet. I spoole...

I've check out the Lexas but that's my last resort.even26 wrote:the pluton is an awesome reel and more so at that price. However another option would be a lexa 300.
