Re: Daiwa Tatula R 100XSL initial impression

One other thing I thought was important about the 321 OleTC The 321 is very thick making it difficult to work inside the bearings with shields. First set I did with shields on rusted on the inside of the bearings badly. Outside had no rust at all. I've removed all shields since then and have had no ...

Re: Daiwa Tatula R 100XSL initial impression

TSI is a like a dry-lube. It leaves a very thin (5 micron or so) film when the liquid it is suspended in dries. Very slick stuff that attaches to the metal and locks out corrosion. I learned a lot reading about it on Alan Tani's site. Check it out if you get a chance. They tested against Yamaha mari...

Re: Daiwa Tatula R 100XSL initial impression

Thanks for the response. You're right about the levelwind use, works great. Dip the pawl and I've even done a driveshaft that the inner tube rusted on to keep it from rusting. Been using it for around 8 months now with great results. You are going to love the stuff. Been testing one set of bearings ...

Re: Daiwa Tatula R 100XSL initial impression

A follow up now. Have been out on around 10 trips with this reel. There are some issues that I would like to share. a) The anti-reverse (AR) function started failing, causing the handle to turn backwards. I have opened the reel and discovered noticeable rust on the cylinder in the AR rollerbearing ...

New Boat Cover Opinions

I'm looking for some good options for 2 boat covers. I have a Tracker Pro 17 I use as a river boat locally that desperately needs a new cover. It doesn't need to be a travel cover as I don't take this boat far so it comes off at home before I leave. Also have a Triton Tr 21pd that's cover is startin...

If you are a righty, a Core 100mg7 is a great choice as well.

Re: tungsten and t-rigs

For fishing rivers I am always rigged up with 1/4oz. On lakes it can be from 1/32-3/8oz and 1,1.25,1.5 and 2oz for punching. These are the ones I find most useful.

Re: Looking for a workhorse

My bet is that the new Ci4 Shimano reels will be fine and plenty durable, light, reliable and perform very well. The only CI4 reel I have used is the shimano chronarch CI4 , and I've looked at a few others at cabelas. The Chronarch is a great performing reel but the new CI4 material does not feel a...

Re: Looking for a workhorse

Well unfortunately I can say the Ci4+ is very durable as I slipped on a wet rock one day fishing on some riprap and came down on my reel  Broke my rod and thought the reel was smashed for sure after coming right down on a rock hard but the only damage is a small scratch in the paint, even got t...

Re: Weight reduction 101d7

It was pointed out to me that with a lot of strain on the reel when froggin could turn into problems regarding frame flex. Guess it depends how heavy the cover is that you are fishing.

Re: What's your favorite NRX and why ?

NRX 842 Mbr. Can't wait to get the 843. Throw jerkbaits, flukes and light t-rigs a lot on local waters and the 842 does it all very well. Soooo light and sensitive it's amazing the power I get out of this rod. The 873 would be next choice.

Have you ever weighed one of those handles? They sure look nice on you're reels, curious about the weight.

Re: Weight reduction 101d7

Yeah that wont work then with the gears. Depends which brand handle, the Semper Fi appear to be the lightest but I dont own one. fishingandfords may know, he owns many. I have a few hedgehog carbon handles and haven't ever weighed them, its more an appearance thing, not really enough weigh loss alon...
