Re: Should a swimbait rod be my next purchase?
With the up coming 4th of July sales I'm hoping to get another casting rod. Current rods are a 13 fishing 7'3"medium Black Omen and a Phenix original Recon 764 . I'm stuck to the shore so I like to try to make the rods I am carrying be able to handle multiple techniques. I feel my current two rods ...

Re: Which reel to buy? Stella or Vanquish.
I've heard the Vanquish translates gear vibration more than the stella due to frame materials. In that regard it won't feel as smooth. I didn't notice it during my brief time with one. I can tell you on my stellas you don't even know you're spinning the handle. It's like just moving your hand in a ...

Re: Which reel to buy? Stella or Vanquish.
Thanks for the replies guys. If I had a sizable income, getting both reels would not be out of the question. :D I was eyeing the stella 1000fe just because of the weight compared to the vanquish. I'm actually a fan of the looks of the vanquish. I know the performance of the stella is top-notched but...

Which reel to buy? Stella or Vanquish.
I'm looking to buy a spinning combo for ultralight lures and soft plastics. I'll mostly be throwing 1/8oz drop shots and weightless plastics. I'm looking to pick up an ultralight spinning reel for the job. I narrowed my choices of reel manufacturers down to Shimano only. I'm mainly looking at the to...

A new shimano calcutta conquest reel?
I just looked on japantackle and noticed on their front page, news of a new shimano calcutta conquest 100/200 reel. Does this spell the end of the gold calcutta conquest in exchange for a silver one? Anyone who is in the know, please share it with the rest of us.

Re: First high end reel
First and foremost, get over to Tackle Warehouse right now and check out their sale items. They have a few daiwa T3 reels, and even their Z reel for sale. Excellent reels for the price. I'm a big fan of the T3 platform and at that $200 price tag, it'll be the perfect reel to handle almost any techni...

Re: swimbait rod
Spro BBZ-1 shad and 6" swimbait, Black Dog shellcracker, and Huddleston 6" and 8" trout for now. Can you recommend any other ones I should look at using? The weights vary greatly with those baits. The spro bbz-1 shad is on the lower end of the weight spectrum and even then, it doesn't really cast w...

Re: swimbait rod
Is there a swimbait rod that would work for 1-5oz lures in the $300 range. I was looking at the Daiwa Zillion TDZL741XHFB and read the review and sounds like a good rod for the price. I was also looking at the Gloomis SWBR955 but saw that the rating was from 2-5oz. Wanted to know if anyone has trie...

Re: A-Rig / Swim Bait Reel
It depends on personal preference. The curado 300e has a faster gear ratio at 6.2:1 as opposed to the calcutta 400B which has a 5.1:1 gear ratio. For your application, I would suggest the curado 300e because it is easier to palm in your hands and can help you catch up to fish that eat your a-rig and...

Re: T3 Project
I apologize if I'm hijacking this thread, but did any of you guys consider changing the drive gear and pinion gear to something else? The reason I say this is because the reel doesn't feel as smooth as say a reel that has brass gears like a zillion or my chronarch D. And it's not the best option for...

Re: T-wing
The only downside to these non-level wind reels were that you had to use your fingers to guide the line on the spool as you reel it in. Does this mean I would have to guide the line in until the lure is near the tip of the rod? Pretty much. That's why if you watched some saltwater videos, you will ...
Re: T-wing
I've have both of the T3 ballistic and T3-1016 reels. To simply answer your question, this t-wing system is legit. You will definitely notice improvement in casting. The one thing I really like is the "effort" required to cast when I compare my tradtional level wind reels like my pixy, steez, chrona...

Re: Do you break your reels down ...
I do the same as you. I am in the middle of experimenting on what lubricants work best. I've been on alan tani's website and took his suggestion about using Yamaha marine grade grease for my reels that will be used in saltwater and even swimbaits. My other reels get Inox grease as it has a nice cons...
