Re: Powell Max 3D rods?
Hey Guys - sorry to revive an old post, but thought you'd like to know. We at Monster Fishing Tackle are the first to receive the new Powell Rods Max 3D Series - they are in stock and shipping. We've also got some of the Max and Endurance series rods still available at 30% off MSRP. Can you give us...

Re: Gear ratio and inches per turn
The move to smaller, lighter reels has required higher gear ratios just to keep them fishable.
Higher gear ratios (spool revolutions per one turn of the handle) allow smaller reels to pick up line as fast as larger reels. Otherwise, the smaller diameter spools would be very slow.

Re: oiling brakes
Sorry I used a bad choice of words to describe that. It made sense to me, kinda like spinning figure skaters who spin faster by pulling in their arms. The closer to the spindle of the spool the brake assembly is located, and the lighter it is, the faster the spool can rotate with the same energy. T...

Re: Tatula rod finish
Thanks. I wondered if she just got a bad rod, but it sounds like that's the way they all come. I can't imagine Daiwa selling something that wouldn't work, but I had to ask you guys who have the rods and who have actually fished with them. i have 3 for almost a yr now fishing braid exclusively and h...

Re: Your Favorite Discontinued Bait
Stickum. That reminds me of Fred Balitnikoff and who is old school enough to remember (The Judge ) Lester Hayes and Paul Warfield. I watched the Raiders march down the field in the snow, only to lose to the '75 Steelers because they ran out of time. The Steelers won the AFC title that day for the s...

Re: oiling brakes
I'll swab the drum with a Q tip next time I open up a reel and see how clean or dirty it is, and how much oil is on it.

Re: oiling brakes
I do it more like Bantam said to, but with the Hot Stuff. So far, it's allowed me to cast both drop shot and split shot much easier and farther with my MG 50 baitcasters.

Re: Your Favorite Discontinued Bait
Another worm I use to catch a lot of bass on as I recall was a culprit worm with a velcro patch embedded in it called The Sticky Worm. I actually landed a small bass with just the velcro stuck to his tiny teeth. The hook had fallen out at some point and I guess he had tired out and gave up and made...

Re: oiling brakes
I am sure everyone has a different opinion, but when I use to use petroleum based oil on the brake it did change quickly. I next went to a silicone oil, and today I use corrosion X for my brake lube and it seems to stay consistent over a longer period of time. I used Hot Stuff. I don't know if it c...

oiling brakes
I had to put new line on one of my Chronarch MG 50's, so I reoiled the brake pins and wiped down the drum with a slightly oiled Q tip to clean and reoil it. I left the same three brakes out configuration like I had before. When I fished it yesterday, I noticed I had to tighten down the spool tension...

Re: Tatula rod finish
I don't have the Tatula but I have a Procyon spinning rod and it has the same unsanded blank, so doe the Cielo, and I'm not sure why they leave the blank like that but it doesn't bother me. I worried that it might speed wear of the fishing line when the line slaps on the cast, or when it rubs when ...

Tatula rod finish
I had the chance to handle a Tatula 7' med lite cranking rod yesterday at the Anglers Marine Bass-A-Thon. It's the rod that Randy Howell used to win the Classic. My friend bought one, so I was able to play with it a little. It is extremely light, and feels great, but I was surprised at how rough the...
