8ft. Rod for Fishing Flairhawks and Swimtails up to 4 oz.
Looking for a higher end rod to buy or build that can handle the above. I'm considering a Rainshadow Immortal, perhaps Revelation blank, but haven't ruled out a factory build version either: Phenix, G Loomis, St. Croix, etc. Rod will be paired with a Calcutta Conquest 300 or 400, and should be sensi...

Calcutta Conquest JDM vs. US? Sizes?
It looks like a 2018-19 Calcutta Conquest 300 or 400 may be in my near future. I plan on using it for fishing for snook and tarpon in the inlets. The issue of course is that it is not a regularly stocked reel so I will have to order it sight unseen. The JDM versions of this reel are different from t...

Re: Rod for a "Guest" Angler
I've noticed the newer versions of Fenwick Lunker Stik are made of a carbon core with a glass outer. Anyone fish these rods? http://www.fenwickfishing.com/fenwick-freshwater-rods-fenwick-lunkerstik/fenwick-lunker-stik-spinning-rod/1371879.html#sz=15&start=18 Do you think they'd be stronger than the ...

Install the carbontex washers dry? Really?
I’ve heard both ways, but I’d like to know the data for wet vs dry?

Re: Best grease and oil for servicing reels. 2019 edition.
Let's see. I have: Daiwa Blue Grease Daiwa reel oil Penn Grease Penn Oil Hot Sauce Cal's Brown Grease Reel-X What's the difference? I have no idea, other than what I've heard. Right now I'm replacing the drag washers on 3 reels with carbon ones. I'm thinking the new washers need to be treated with C...

Re: Looking for a MH Spinning Rod w/ Moderate Action...
The guy at Phenix suggested their inshore model over the crankbait one. Said it's not a parabolic while still maintaining a soft upper half.

Re: Looking for a MH Spinning Rod w/ Moderate Action...
Moderate to parabolic action to throw treble hooked hard baits. What do you suggest that is strong and won't break the bank? Phenix makes a couple of models https://www.phenixrods.com/products/freshwater/crankbait/ $199 Those Phenix models are nice. I have 3 of their rods: 2 Ultra MBX's and a SW st...

Rod for a "Guest" Angler
No doubt you've taken someone fishing with no tackle and little to no fishing experience. It could be your kids, spouse, friend or business colleague. You're not going to let them use your high end / high dollar outfits, so you hand them what? I usually hand them a Berkley Lightning Rod, which I've ...

Re: Fillet Knife
My Cutco broke right inside the handle. Weird.
A Gerber broke right at blade just above the handle.
A Rapala folding fillet rusted beyond repair.
Three brands that have been good for me are one by CRKT called the "Big Eddy," one by Schrade with a bone handle, and anything by Dexter-Russell.

Aside from cost to have these shipped from Japan, I wonder if there are import restrictions being they are considered chemicals?
