Re: Curado Being Discontinued??

Here's hoping they do better than they've done the past couple of years. My last 4 reels have been Tatula's, 2 standard & 2 R's and I'm hoping that was the right choice. I'm still buying Shimano spinners but I'm done with their casting reels unless they do something different. And, no, I haven't fis...

A-Rig / Swim Bait Reel

Trying to decide which reel to mate with a Dobyns 795ML for A-rigs and swim baits. Curado 300e or Calcutta 400b? Line will most likely be 65# braid w/ mono leader. What's the consensus??

Re: Braid of Choice for Spinning Reels

10# Fireline on my 1000 size reels I crappie fish with. 20# 832 on my bigger reels. I use fluoro and mono leaders connected w/ Alberto Knot.

Re: DX 795 vs. DX 784ML

I've been in somewhat the same quandry for a while now but mine has been between the 784 and 745. My "Merry Christmas to Me" out fit is going to be a DX745 with a Tatula (hopefully an "R"). I can't find anyone that has fished either rod that has anything but good to say about them but I decided on t...

Re: Heavy duty spinning setup for fall/winter football jigs?

Check out Dobyns. They have the 704 and 705 in the Champion line and a 764 in the Extreme line. Any of them should handle what you're asking. I've kind of had the same idea for a c-rig rod... As far as reels spinning reels begin and end with Shimano as far as I'm concerned. A 3000 or 4000 in whichev...

Re: DX745C -vs- DX784C

The 745 may be exactly what I'm looking for based on what Steve & civcrr are saying. One of my dislikes with the 764 is that the tip action is almost too fast for fb jigs. I don't feel as "connected" as I'd like even when dragging a 3/4 oz jig w/ trailer. For some reason I don't have the same (perce...

Re: DX745C -vs- DX784C

Since this falls more into the "want" rather than "need" category I'm thinking I'll go with the 745. The 784 seems to have a loyal but smaller following but I like the fact the 745 seems to be more versatile. Who knows next year this time I may have both

DX745C -vs- DX784C

Tackle monkey is on my back again!! I'm currently fishing a 735C for pitching jigs and plastics and a 764C for dragging football jigs (3/4-1 oz) and c-rigs. I'm thinking about upgrading to an Extreme at least for the football jigs and c-rig but wouldn't be opposed to using it to pitch / flip with. M...

Re: Fluorocarbon ?

the modified albright knot that some refer to as the alberto knot is the best connection knot for braid to fluoro that i have found. If your using the double uni knot the problem you may have is that over time the braid cuts into the leader and will break off. the double uni is better suited for co...

Re: Dobyns 764C -vs- 735C

Thanks civicrr, I thought you might have some input. The 764 is a beast of a rod, I've been throwing 3/4 oz jig heads w/ 4" swim bait bodies for hybrids (wipers) and it doesn't seem to be particularly loaded, much less overloaded with this combination. It will fling it a looong way though, with a Ci...

Dobyns 764C -vs- 735C

It's spring time and my chronic tackle addiction is raging....I'm currently fishing a 764C for c-rigs, flutter spoons, and small swim baits but I'm thinking about adding a 735C for pitching jigs, soft plastics, and for casting football jigs. Football jigs here in TX usually mean 1/2 oz+ in deep wate...

Re: Dobyns 702c...what to use with it...

Those of you who have used it what would you think of it as a walleye rod 8-10lb line for snap jigging jig heads with small plastics, also needs really good sensitivity, something i dont think my savvys have enough of for walleye in deep water. I can't tell you about walleye fishing but I crappie f...
