Re: Dedicated lighter plastics bfs setup
Nice batch of rods, I'm pretty set on my Loomis CR721. I can't cast ultralight baits with it though, but it works for most of the non-weighted plastics I fish. How does it handle lures in the 1/8th to 3/16th ounce range? I am looking for a short BFS-ish rod for plastics ranging from say a weightles...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
Oh man, it took two day-ending backlashs, but I did learn to back off on filling the spool. Now that I know the system will work for me, I can just practice until I gain enough skill to hopefully make the backlashes less of an issue. I really had a blast with it and was amazed at how easy it was to ...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
I'd recommend 4-6 XL to get the spool dialed in. It's cheap, easy handling line. I finally got out to try your advice. Spooled up with some 4lb XT and hit the ponds. Reel is a PX68 w/ DIY spool and BFS Air Bearings, rod a Teton UL. With the spool tension set to a slow drop and the brake at 50% I co...

Re: Alpha sv105 line capacity
I split a 200y spool of 12lb Invizx between two reels, a Zillion SV and a sv105. The Zillion ended up a little under filled and the sv105 was a little over filled. I did some math and counted handle rotations, so not super scientific. 12lb Invizx is .28m, so I think 90 yards of 10 lb test -. 285 mm ...

That last trout is bigger than most of the bass I catch. The Super Trickster is moving up my list, thanks for the report.

Re: Ned Rig for Panfish
That's too bad, thanks for looking into it though. Once I get my new UL shook out I am going to try some of the finesse worms cut down to say 2". What I loved about the split trailers was how you could get the hook right at the base of the lure body, so even a very short striking fish could be hooked.

Re: TW clearance sale of Daiwa sv105 and sv103 ... ???
This is annoying news. I got a SV105 over Black Friday and so far it is the best casting reel I have tried, in terms of ease of use and how comfortable it is to hold and cast with. Is there a 1:1 JDM equivalent, or should I snag a second one on ebay, where the prices are still sub $200? i The sv105...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
While I am still going to keep working with my UL trout rod, I do think I want a L weight rod for my main BFS stuff. I am thinking I will mostly throw Ned Rigs (3/16oz), small shakyheads (1/4oz), and cranks/spinners in the same weight range. I want a short rod in the 6'-6'3" range. I am looking hard...

Re: Single hook in-line spinner hooking quality
I fish small spinners for white perch and have been moving to single hooks as the small WP just wreck themselves on trebles. Last season I only fished the single hook models and didn't notice a lessened number of hookups. Even these little guys manage to get the hook into their mouths; http://i.imgu...

Re: Trout Magnets
The Trout Slayers were one of the first lures I stumbled upon when I got into fishing. I was mostly interested in panfish then, but ended up catching my first smallie on one. http://i.imgur.com/SmmCRGil.jpg Pulled this guy out of the C&O canal right in the middle of Washington DC. It about bent the ...

Yeh, I could not resist it either, I think I got spot #2 for a RH one. I should get it just in time for white perch season.shu-bfs wrote:Jun has always been helpful. I've put my deposit in for the Shimano Conquest BFS

Re: What to do with an Alphas 150h?
Thanks for the info guys. I got to cast it around the yard a little on a MH Fenwick SM Elite and it casts very nicely. It does still feel too big, the small Diawas have ruined me for larger reels I think.

Re: Pitching distance
I have been working on pitching a lot in the last year as I fish from the bank a lot and have a far greater need for "short, accurate, and soft" then I do "long and loud". At 24' (the longest hallway in my house) I can reliably hit a 5g paint lid with any appropriately matched lure/reel/line/rod com...
