Re: Short BFS rod

I made a new post to share my impressions of the Tsurinoya Ares along with some comparisons to other rods here:

BFS: Ares vs. 6 other rods

Thanks.

BFS: Ares vs. 6 other rods

In my Short BFS Rod post I explained my search for a rod that was both short, for underhand casting, and capable of handling very light lures. I followed the advice of Hobie-Wan Kenobie and ordered a Tsurinoya Ares C472UL, which my wife gave me for Christmas. https://i.postimg.cc/WzsD3bP5/ares-tube....

Re: Short BFS rod

Got the Tsurinoya Ares C472UL for Christmas and just did some yard casting. Amazed that it seems like casting 1 g might actually be practical. Better than a similar Kuying or the CU Double.

Re: CDM spinning rod recommendation for mini jigs?

Not a fan of using braid with mini jigs because it floats and you need to get those little jigs down. Go with flouro at first and later try ester. Buy your line based on diameter not test rating. A 2# rated US market line is probably closer to 4# in reality and IMHO 4# US market line is not very goo...

Re: CDM spinning rod recommendation for mini jigs?

Don't invest in a new rod until you give the Teton a try. Do you have the UL or SUL. I have both but find myself using the SUL more. I don't own a rod that can cast a Trout Magnet farther and the rod has so much give that nothing protects light li e better when you hook into a bigger fish. I'm usual...

Re: Perch, perch, perch!

Anyone else experiencing them breaching during the fight when the water is cold? Ive had some shoot out of the water multiple times. Maybe they do it all year but I just didn't take notice.

Re: Perch, perch, perch!

Nice reel, I just picked up the 500s. I so can't wait for ice fishing perch this year.... Thanks. What attracted me to the Soare BB was that it has a shallow spool and a reasonable price. Think it was below $150 ordered from Japan. Have one each in slow and high speed. My first decent spinning reel...

Re: High viz flouro in US

Have you considered the Sunline Bite Marker System fluoro? It isn't uniformly hi-vis, but it does have a repeating 45cm hi-vis between 65cm of clear. Don't know how I missed that? Thanks Chris. Still open to other suggestions as well. Finding UL lines is getting a bit easier in the US but add the h...

Chris @ finesse-fishing has some high vis lines available.
Thanks but he doesn't offer any flouro.

High viz flouro in US

Some of my fishing buddies want to get into ultralight and I need 2-4# high viz flouro available in the US to recommend. Preferably line with accurate ratings, not the 2# that is really 4# ridiculousness. If accurate stuff doesn't exist here then I'll just have them get 2#. I like Seaguar R18 Yellow...

Perch, perch, perch!

2020 was a very different fishing year for me. Winds consistently interfered with my favorite method, twitching Trout Magnets and other small soft plastics on SUL gear. The plus side is I was forced to focus more on BFS, but that's another post. One thing I love about late fall in New Jersey is that...

I would just use it. I can tell you I tested them extensively and there is .2 pounds difference between the two. I wish the Varivas came in 3# test.

Me too! But wonder if line management would get even more difficult.

Re: Casting Distance: Ideal BFS Rod characteristics?

I had the similar goals as you with regard to BFS...casting Trout Magnets. I also have the same reel, spool and line. That said, while a TM (1 g total wt.) is possible, I just don't find it practical. But once you get to 2 g or 1/16 oz things begin to work quite well. Throw 3 g and you won't even ha...
