Re: new Tatula CT
Man, I'm loving these new reels. I won't be buying any, but it's already driving the price of tws zillions down and those are excellent reels. I like the bigger frame myself.

Re: Spybait rod
They do, they sink like a rock, those g fix baits. I use an MC MS-X 65ML, SS SV 105HL, and duo spinbait 80. That blank is crisp and has a great mod fast action which is perfect for both setting light wire hooks and keeping trebles pinned. It's relatively short, so it's best for pitching finesse jigs...

Re: shimano reels more powerful than daiwa?
Cool, that's one type of reel I've never torn apart. I could see the need for the mechanical advantage in that kind of reel.BARRAMANIAC wrote: Straight cut gears are common in lever drag overheads

Re: shimano reels more powerful than daiwa?
They call it digigear. They're all helical cut, too. I've never seen dog tooth gears on any reel, even those that are over 100 yrs old, on anything except level wind drive gears. Actually, the spirals are even tighter on those antique reels. My luna 103 is 5.8:1 for 24"/turn and feels like a rock on...

Re: Daiwa Tatula 7'2"MHRB or 7'2"HFB
I don't have the 721HFB, but I do have the 721MHRB-G and it has that soft glass tip, but it has a heavy backbone. It works great for squarebills, spooks, traps, deep divers, and spinnerbaits. I could even see using for frogs and toads on open water, but not in cover. I have the 711MHRB and use it fo...

Re: Tatula HD usdm vs Tatula usdm parts compatibility
That's exactly why I haven't gotten one of those. I don't need that much line capacity and there's no magforce z spool option. Other than that, it's probably a kick ass reel as long as you stick to the techniques it was designed to handle. Does it have the same drag star setup as the standard tatula?

Re: Tatula vs new Fuego?
I don't think the t wing is a gimmick at all. The line definitely comes off more smoothly whether pitching or casting. I get better casting distance with less effort and risk of backlash and I think the tatula palms just fine, at least on a tatula rod, though I do have larger hands. To get optimum c...

Re: Tatula vs new Fuego?
I doubt it. I just wonder if the form factor is any narrower.
Re: My Rant!
Oh, and it has that sensitivity you're missing. I've got mine mounted on that 7'7" glass tatula and there's no question as to what your bait is contacting or whether it's fouled somehow. I'm glad you brought that up, because I'd never experienced that sensation with any other reel, whether aluminum...

TD Luna 103L. 5.8:1. They're on auction on eBay all the time. I got mine for less than $150 shipped. Needs a handle and a carbontex drag stack. Other than that it rocks for cranking and topwaters. Plus, you can fit a 1016, sv1012, or sv 1000 spool if you want to.

I use a T3 with a shallow sv spool and air bearings and an SS sv103 with great results.

Re: 7' M-MF or ML-F casting rod
The Major Craft Volkey 69ml/bfs would be a good choice. They're right around 4oz and well balanced. They do have an ex fast tip, though. I'm pretty sure there's a ml in the basic series with similar ratings and a mod-fast tip. I use the 68l/bfs but won't throw anything heavier than the standard spin...

Re: stone metal fire carbon handles
Just got that handle today and it is ssssweet! Finish is excellent, knob tolerances are tight, the knobs themselves are nice and grippy, the bearings are smooth, it isn't swept too deeply, so with a couple of adjustment washers (there were four included) I was able to use the stock Luna drag star wi...
