Re: What lures do you wish weekend warriors never used?
With many (most ?) here on this site being in tune with what's going on in Japan, I'm somewhat surprised more don't embrace light / ul tackle more. Japan has infinitely more people crowded onto very limited waters - in other words, most of us here have no clue what a truly pressured body of water is...

Re: Baitcasters for light stuff
I've been bitching about this forever - Daiwa had a home run with the Sol, so of course they discontinued it inexplicably  It's been done, I still maintain there is no good reason at all why a decent baitcaster for light baits has to cost $500. Complete bullsh!t. The only reason I can think of...

Re: Pflueger Trion
Yeah, I just may do it. My original Trion got put away wet and forgotten about - blistered the finish something awful (100% my fault) Mechanically it's fine, but it's pretty much retired now. I remember foul hooking an 8 lb + brown carp - that reel on a BPS Microlite UL rod and a Rapala floater ... ...

Re: Favorite UL line
I use Tasline All-White 12lb pe0.4 6 strand braid on all my shallow spool UL spinning reels and then a 2-4 Fluro leader (sniper). I love the braid because it's insanely thin and supple. The diameter of the braid is smaller than 4lb nanofil and the 6 strand weave keeps it from being rough and noisy ...

Re: Budget Spinning Reel
Pfleuger Trions run about $39.99 and are the best budget reels out there. Super smooth drag and light weight graphite construction. Then you can get him a nicer rod like a Compre series for around $100-120.00 and be right at your price point. I've been using my little 25 size Trion a lot this past ...

Pflueger Trion
The Trion has been around for years, and for good reason - it's freakin' bulletproof 8-) Pflueger updated it for 2013, the most notable thing they did was to get rid of the rosewood handle, which is a good thing. Check out the features . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpD3kHfMLAs My first Pflueg...

Re: Rod suggestions
Hope you like it. I suggest you get a bottle of this - http://www.mudhole.com/Fly-Tying/Cleaners-Lubricants/Renzetti-Ferrule-Lube-1-oz- It works well. I apply it at the beginning of every season, even though I rarely break down my two piece rods. While you're at it, pick up a bottle of this - http:/...

How can you not return a new reel ? Did you buy it from some guy selling them out of his car or something ?

Hey ABU ... are you listening ? ... affordable casting reel for light baits. The market is there, ripe for the picking. Everyone else is content to have them relegated to a false overpriced boutique market. Here's your chance to come in and kill the competition.
Do it, do it, do it ...

Re: Rod suggestions
You should try one first before buying if able There's the rub - handling rods before buying. In my area, if you can find 3 UL rods in the same store, you accomplished something. But they will almost always be in the 5' to 5' 6" range, which is fine for some but I prefer 6' 8" and longer. But being...

They look like a blast on light tackle ... I wonder if they have that criminally insane fight to them that our bigger 'gills haveSmead wrote:They are different...though it would be interesting to investigate the taxanomy.

Re: Rod suggestions
I'd vote Avid if it came to a choice between the two...it's the Premier rods that feel softish, relatively, they use SC II rather than the Avid's SC III blank. Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up.That opens up the Avid as a possible replacement for the submerged Fenwick. I prefer a bit of backbone in...
