Re: Sufix Elite/Siege Opinions?

Both are great lines IMO. I'm a long time user. Elite is a bit more supple than Siege. Or you can say Siege is stiffer. Siege does seem to be more abrasion resistant. Before I went to braid with leader for my spinning rods I used Elite as my line. I found it as manageable as Trilene XL yet stronger ...

Re: Dobyns Spinning Rod for 4-6lb line?

I've never fished them but they have a couple 1 power spinning rods. Extreme DX701SF Finesse and Champion DC701SF. They both have line ranges of 4-10lbs. I've read of guys using them for dropshot especially in So Cal. where you need to use really light line on super pressured lakes. added in edit: I...

Re: For you braid users...

I like to use stiff fluoro leaders for jigs and worms and jerkbaits. I usually start with about a 6' leader and cut and retie a few times throughout the day until it is about 3' long then put a new one on. I use a Mono leader for most walking baits. I haven't found any benefit when using a leader w...

Re: rod for small hard swimbaits

I'll first qualify this by saying that I don't yet have a lot of time with the Dobyns 794SB. I've been a fan of the 795SB for a long time. I know I'm not alone. It is a very good rod for the (relatively) smaller swimbaits out there - hard or soft. I've caught a lot of fish (largies & stripers) on it...

Re: Dobyns DX 702c

I haven't used the 702C but I have used the DX742C (prior to HP series). Started with 12lb mono as the mainline for 5" weightless senkos texas (weedless) hooked. Rod loaded really well when casting. I was really able to bomb it out there. The problem was I wasn't consistently getting a good hookup. ...

Re: Champion XP vs IMX

Not sure if this will help since its been a long time....In fact, since I owned an 855, the line has been completely revamped. I honestly couldn't tell you if the new series fishes the same as the older. I like the 735 better because it seems to have a lighter tip. Note that the 855 is listed as a f...

Dobyns Champion 735CB Glass

Hey guys, in case anybody else is interested, I just saw that TW is now selling the Dobyns 735CB Glass. I only have a little time with 736CB Glass but I've been pretty impressed with it. Gary Dobyns has posted on various forums that it took him some time (longer than he wanted I'm guessing) to get t...

Re: Which shallow to mid depth crank rod

Dobyns 705CB is my most often used cranking stick. Really a great cranking stick for squarebills & mid cranks. It just feels 'right' in my hands.

It is correctly named the XP 744C...I liked the previous Champion 744C but wished it was a tad faster blank...well boys, I just talked to Dobyns and ordered one! Hope to post a report in a week or so! \:D/ Interesting. I was under the impression that the blank itself was the same. added in ed...

Re: Dobyns 705cb vs 705cb glass with braid

So sort of tough to give you a straight answer on this one. It really comes down to some personal preference. The 704CB loads pretty good with a Vision 110, 112 Slender or 115 Flash Pointer. Probably the biggest baits I want to cast on the 704CB. The 705CB easily handles the weight of those baits. T...

Re: 1.0-1.5 squarebill rod suggestions

I think you should try a Dobyns 704CB. It will cast that range of baits great. IMO, it has a slightly faster taper than the 843CB so it will fish like it has a little more backbone. It isn't going to be huge but it will be noticeable. How heavy is the cover & size of fish where you'll be primarily f...

Re: Dobyns 705cb vs 705cb glass with braid

.....with braid, I'd probably go with the 705CB Glass (fast action not the 705CBMF). In most conditions, both would work equally well. I typically fish shallow cranks & topwater with mono. When they're chewing, I have no problem hooking up & landing the fish. If the fish were put off by a cold front...

Re: Helium 3 or Dobyns DX

The rods fish very differently. Personally, I like the one you ended up with more.

Here is a thread on the two.
