Re: Best sinking UL line? Fluoro or Ester...or something else?

Thanks Alphahawk, Appreciate the confirmation. When you say that you have a hard time seeing it, do you mean when you need to tie the line or when actually fishing? And if actually fishing, are you watching the line to see strikes rather than feeling the strikes? ps: Also, I assume that with 2 lbs l...

Re: Best sinking UL line? Fluoro or Ester...or something else?

Not a big deal but given no replies, I assume that no one has compared them side by side. I'll likely go with Fluoro then. I had thought that ester would sink better but given that fluor is about 31% dense, I assume that it sill get down better though I think Ester's stiffness will give better sensi...

Best sinking UL line? Fluoro or Ester...or something else?

I know that I started a thread (no pun intended) on Ester line, which well-informed enthusiasts such as Alphahawk like. One of the defining strengths mentioned is that Ester sinks. I need a line that allows my 1.5 to 3 grams jigs to sink to 20 feet and stay in that zone as much as possible. I use li...

Thanks Ras.

Did you try the Varivas Ester which Alphahawk has been using?

Thanks!

Re: Types of Ester Lines: Varivas & Other Brands?

A million Thanks Alphahawk, I'll try a few spools and take your time. Hope you found your DREAM home! My wife and I toured some homes to downsize and it's not an easy task...:) By the way, lb for lb, the Lemoni and Master Ester are thinner than the other two. I'm looking for Ester to use as sinking ...

Thanks Slipperybob. Looks like a great line - but it is not Ester line though.

Types of Ester Lines: Varivas & Other Brands?

Just looking at the Varivas, there are: Ajing Master Ester Ajing master Super Trout Area Master Limited Super Trout Area ES2 Lemoni What are the differences and how does one decide? Also, any other brands of Ester you may recommend for performance or bang for the buck? Will be tackling trout up to 7...

Is the Shimano Vanquish still top dog among UL?

Wondering if any here still consider the Vanquish the top dog among UL reels? Size for size, it remains the lightest which is one of the desirable characteristics of UL reels....

Thanks.

Re: Can I remove reverse switch & parts for Shimano Vanford 500?

Thank you! It would actually make it more water resistant. Right now, the switch is just a nice hole for water to get in. That's what started me thinking about taking the switch out.

Also, thi means that I can't accidentally flip it. It should also reduce the weight by a few grams...

Can I remove reverse switch & parts for Shimano Vanford 500?

The entire Vanford line does not have a reverse switch where one can back reel. However, the tiny little 500 has a reverse switch. Can this be removed and set permanently to just turn in one direction? And if yes, how many parts would I remove? And is it difficult to do so? Thanks in advance for any...

Any Aliexpress UL Braid

I've been testing Phenix 'ironfeather' rated at 5 lbs. Fresh out of the box, it actually breaks around 4 lbs. Its about $20 per 160 meters/175 yeards. The advantage, not surprisingly, is that it is extremely fine diameter and casts the proverbial 'mile.' I don't think I've any line that casts as far...

Re: New Shimano Vanford 1000 - No switch for anti-reverse

Have both 500, 1000, and assessed 1000, 2500, and 3500. The actual spool diameter and stroke of the 1000 is significantly greater than the 500. The lip of the 500 is much taller than the 1000 (double actually) and the stroke is shorter, so difference is substantive. That said, for UL likes such as 2...
