Re: 2 lbs mono/fluoro on size 500 vs size 1000/2000.

Thanks all for the comments. They more than answered my question. It seems very conclusive that the 500 reels have SIGNIFICANTLY reduced casting distance among other negatives. The only advantage would be visual balance with short rods (for some) and lighter weight. The Vanford and Soare 500 are jus...

Re: 2 lbs mono/fluoro on size 500 vs size 1000/2000.

THANKS for the input. I ask what line, including lbs test, you all used?

I have a hunch that with UL braided line, the different shrinks dramatically so that there may not be practicable differences. But this is just a hunch. I don't really know.

2 lbs mono/fluoro on size 500 vs size 1000/2000.

I've never used size 500 reels. Fish 2 lbs Sunline Sniper fluoro which breaks nearer 3 lbs or 2 lbs Izorline which breaks at 4 lbs. I just assumed that the size 1000 and 2000 (shallow spool) will cast significantly further. Figure I'll ask a very basic question - DO the 1000 and 2000 really cast not...

Re: Jigs for really TINY fish?

THANKS all for your replies! (Just checking in.)

Fascinating - such as the Tenkarabum link. I had NO idea that fishing for tiny teeny little fish was a thing. LOL!

Jigs for really TINY fish?

Trout season is over where I am due to heat. But hiking around the lake where I live, I see schools of hundreds of small panfish (3-4"). I thought it would be fun to occasionally go for quantity rather than size. I don't have a clue on where to find jigs small enough for these fish to take. These wo...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods

Hey Amir,

Just to let you know that your post had part of its intended effect. I ordered the 7' 4" this weekend to see what the positive fuss is all about. I don't know if I actually need one but was intrigued enough to get one to swing around and see what the blank is like. :D

Re: Anyone make short glass UL casting rods?

HobieWan, I don't know if my thoughts hold any water....but my guess is that you would have something that has a really soft top 1/2 or 60%. But has a stout backbone that you can DIG into when needed. I have a cheapie Chinese rod that I got on a whim to loan to guests. It is exactly that. The tip is...

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods

Curious. Two questions if I may:

1. What is the weight of this rod?

2. Do they use the same blank built into a spinning rod?

Thanks.

Re: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting Rods

What if one simply straps the spare rod on the back and never have to handle it unless one wants to? I find the ability to swap lures in a second when going from place to place helpful. No retying with a 2nd rod. All a matter of preference of course. I see some bass boats with 8 rods for 1 fisherman...

Re: Anyone make short glass UL casting rods?

So I've got to admit I got a super hard on for one of Anglo's glass stream rods after seeing that casting video post here. Guy is using a 4'11 3 piece glass casting rod rated for 1-5g to throw minnow plugs in tight mountain streams. I think you mean Enjoy Fishing Channel's Fisherman (Saito?): https...

NICE! Bring back memories with my boys. Great stuff!

Regarding broken rods, I've had rods where the tip broke and I cut off the blank until the first guide and like how it fish even better....:)

Re: Ester or PE Braid?

Thanks. Is this 3 lbs? If yes, then that is an achievement even if it is 'only' as supple as your 2.3 lbs. [/quote] I have it but have not had a chance to get out and use....been iced in for a week now. Hope to get out soon. The line at first glance does not appear to be anymore supple than the este...
