I always enjoy this guy's reviews...I like the one where he compares his Labrax vs his cousin's rod pick...funny video.

Oh I don't doubt it. But JDM rods aren't thr easiest to get.
Not difficult - https://ebay.us/7IhuQk

Click buy it now, and the rod will arrive at your doorstep within 3 business days. Doesn't get easier than that!

I forgot about Black Hole's Suzuki Special Ultralight line. Probably perfect for your needs.
The BH "UL" is a buggy whip compared to real suzuki rods like the Labrax/Lunamis - wasn't impressed with the old or new ones at all.

Re: Surf fishing (spinning) rods for jerkbait halibut in Socal area?

I think you may have hit a home run here. Looks like the exact specs I'm looking for. I won't go to prison for putting an Exsence on a Daiwa rod, right? I have a Stella on mine and so far remain a free man :) But yeah I've owned or tried many JDM "suzuki" rods in that rough price range - Dialuna/Lu...

Re: Surf fishing (spinning) rods for jerkbait halibut in Socal area?

Looking for a 2 piece rod, preferably 9' to throw primarily a LC 110 on 20lb braid to 12-14lb fluoro. Been using a 9' too floppy Fenwick steelhead rod for a while. Tried to upgrade to a 9' Phenix trifecta lite as it came highly recommended but they sent me a presumably defective one that was nearly...

Re: Reel Foot Scratches + Saltwater

The Stella should have a clear plastic decal in the box that is made to wrap around the foot to prevent damage to the finish. Modern reel seats are plastic or composite materials that should not damage the finish, but just in case you can use the clear decal to provide extra protection. If you do e...

Re: Mechanical differences in Stella FK lineup?

My guess is the 1k sizes are for trout/panfish and very light lures - there you want a lighter rotation so you can actually feel the lure coming through the water. Body size is ofc correlated to gear size. 50lb+ saltwater gamefish on a 2500/3k bass spinner doesn't sound reasonable to me, at all. I h...

Re: Mechanical differences in Stella FK lineup?

Rotor is the thing that holds the bail and spins when you turn the handle. The alum rotor paired to the Mg body is what gives Stellas their signature feel...very robust, very refined, but not the lightest package. My advice is get the USDM 2500HG if you're going to fish it in saltwater. Should fit y...

Re: Mechanical differences in Stella FK lineup?

Before you confuse yourself further, look at this chart and pay attention to the columns "body size" and "rotor size."

Re: Mechanical differences in Stella FK lineup?

It shows the 3000MHG, medium spool high gear, as being slightly less weight but same gear ratio as the 4000MGH. Is this weight difference solely from case/spool size being deeper but has the same gearing or am I misunderstanding? Did you mean to say the C version which is compact? Could you elabora...

Reel Foot Scratches + Saltwater

My Exist/Airity both have scratches/chips on the reel foot where it's inserted into the reel seat. They stay in freshwater so I'm not too concerned. My Stella and Vanquish...both magnesium reels, are fished in saltwater. So far no paint scratches, but if that were to happen on a magnesium frame - ba...

Re: Mechanical differences in Stella FK lineup?

So the FK1000 doesn’t get the duracross new special drag system tech? 1 drag washer vs a stack of 3 accounts for the difference in output. There's a body/gearing size jump from 1000 to 2500. The C3000 has a 2500 body and a deeper spool. Many more models on the JDM side, including my favorite the 30...

Re: 21 Exsence A 4000 ($100 off) vs Vanquish

The Exsense is the best "larger" fish spinning reel I've ever used with one major caveat, the drag. The carbon fiber drag stack is the worst drag I've ever used on a high-end reel. There is a massive sticking point before the drag releases and I almost threw my setup on shore after losing two huge ...

Re: Beware

I’ was working on my boat all weekend and today I got in there to finish up something’s and reorganize when I realized new baits that I just got from Japan were deformed bloated splits and I just wanted to cry after continuing to count past 11 Sorry to hear that - what baits blew up? OSP hard baits?

Re: 21 Exsence A 4000 ($100 off) vs Vanquish

Anyway, can anyone give me some comparisons with either the 19 or 23 vanquish vs the exsence (preferably in the 4000 size)? Infinity Loop and that silly shark fin piece actually makes a difference - on my Stella FK I'm getting noticeably longer casting distance with PE1 YGK on a 9ft Labrax AGS. Nor...
