Re: dobyns 705cb glass disappointment

Did you buy the 705CBMF in the Dobyns? Or did you buy the 705CB Fast? Those are 2 completely different sticks and may be the reason why??? The 705CB Glass Fast action is the rod that everyone raves about because it's a super versatile crankbait rod that can handle A LOT. The 705CB Glass Mod Fast is ...

Re: Time to buy more tackle boxes

I always thought you were supposed to eat your food on top of all your tackle...it only makes sense, right?

Re: Line for a DX 745

Get some Daiwa Samurai Braid in 70# and you're set. The Daiwa Samurai is way thinner and a lot more supple than Sufix or PowerPro.

Re: jerkbait rod

The 704CB is the rod I've been using. As you might have read before, I used to use the 705CB until speaking with Richard Dobyns at last years ISE Sacramento. I was doing pretty good with the 705CB but at times, I felt I might be overworking the bait. 704CB has been better for me. I can work the bai...

Re: KVD 1.5's and Traps (1/4) rod

I have the older Shimano Clarus, the one with the brown blank and full cork that's a 7' Med-Hvy Fast action rod that's perfect for this. I don't know if you could find one online somewhere, but this thing has a very soft tip that loads these baits very well.

Re: Disappointed with my dx702 experience

How long ago was this billjaco?

I've been to several different shops, and find only a couple that have some type of blemish that would make me want to not purchase the rod...I've purchased 15 Dobyns since 2010 from different retailers online and in-store, and have never had to return one.

Re: dx 743 or 744?

743 is fantastic for Senkos and Flukes. Haven't tried a Keitech on it yet...I have an unopened package cause I have so many other lures to use first.

Re: Fat Ika

Couldn't you cut a slit into the Ika almost like make it a split belly? Wouldn't that effectively increase your hookups because there's less plastic that the hook has to fold up?

Re: what makes a rod good?

Man, that whole thing about wraps, scrim, resin, etc. is all just bologna. When I first started bass fishing in 2008 I was reading forums, articles, watching videos, etc. trying to learn what makes a good rod, and what to look for when buying a rod...it all led me to wasting a ton of money on rods t...

Re: Xtra fast rod?

I prefer the x-fast rod compared to a fast because I feel like you get more direct contact with the jig. I feel like I can tell what a bass is actually doing with the jig on an x-fast rod, and know it has it in its mouth so that I can set the hook. I tend to miss more fish on a fast rod because the ...

Re: What is your favorite Reel/Spool for 5" Senko Fishing?

Just using a stock Chronarch D7 and it's perfect for me.

I really really really miss my Daiwa Sol though...I wish I would have never sold that sucker!!! That was THE PERFECT Senko reel.

Re: Dobyns Champion 635CB?????

I was using the 764CB RM for fishing jerks and would just sweep to the side, but it really was awkward and hard on your shoulder and wrist after a full day of ripping. I ended up going back to a 7' rod, but wonder what it would be like with a 6'6 or 6'3... Mike, just buy the 634CB and then sell me y...

Re: Disappointed with my dx702 experience

You're not the only one in the boat with QC issues on your rods. There are a lot of pro staffers on pretty much all the fishing forums you can find, and it's a shame that rather than helping you find a solution to your problem they will just accuse you of bashing. I had the same experience with my D...

Re: Dobyns Champion 635CB?????

When I was on a guide trip in Florida with Billy Bob, his deck only has 6 foot rods...it felt sooooooooooo weird. I had the hardest time casting a spinnerbait with that short little rod! But yes, I'm very interested to see if anyone can chime in on this 634CB cause I would love to have one for ripba...
