Re: Choose a rod brand

I am not sponsored or brand loyal so I dip my toes into many pools. Old School OG Era MB are right up there with anything top shelf. New MB not so much. Evergreen is certainly up there as well. For more easily sourced rods higher end Steez, Loomis GLX/NRX, Shimano and Phoenix K2 are all up there. I ...

Re: Bfs bait caster recommendation

Get the Geb. Should be around $100 less than your budget from Digitaka or a similar shop in Japan. I have tons of reels from various eras and this was a home run out of the box by Daiwa.

Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW

Ha. Sorry. I did not notice the date of the old post. Beautiful SV103s you have there. I use ZPI in mine too. Or should I say, I have ZPIs in my SV103s as I rarely use the reels. I do not think I used them at all in 2021-2022. Hope for time to give them a workout in 2013. Appreciate the kind words....

Are those spools a Gold ZPI PG and a Red ZPI M?
Close, the other way around. The red is the PG and the gold is the M. It is likely the angle of the picture that sort of gives a false illusion.

Re: Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW

Thanks for all the input. I have decided on the Zillion SV TW for now mainly due to it being lighter, further caster, and I like the knobs better. 8-) I own 2 of each reel. The zillion casts better (longer distance) and does a little better with light baits. However, difference in casting length an...

Re: BFS Reels

I still have and love love love my SS Air. Its built on the OG Steez platform, as is the SV Light. I sold my SV Light only because of overlap/redundancy. Still a great reel. I also have the Alphas Air TW. It is a much smaller reel than either of the the other mentioned. It will do down to 2 grams w...

Re: Aldebaran 22 and Avail spool?

Maybe its just me, but i was trying to throw some 2 gram spoons on a couple different rods, both UL, one jdm one cdm, and both were giving me issues. whereas the gekkabijin on the same rod had no problem with them. right now i have it paired with a ray tarantula and have it dedicated to 3-4 gram sp...

A lot of things made during the golden era of JDM tackle still blow away a lot of today’s cheapened crap.

Re: Daiwa Spool

Not all 34 mm spools will fit with a direct swap. Some may require a mod or two. I don’t believe the older Daiwa Type R, Type R+ or Steez 103 spools will fit without a mod of some sort if I recall from trying it years ago. The Orange SV100 is a great spool in there as are the SV1012 and 1016. Most a...

Re: Help me unbox and prepare the right way with new reels

Fish them stock first. Then if you feel performance is lacking I would flush and lightly oil the spool bearings. If the gears feel dry add some more grease to them. If they feel overgreased clean them and regrease then appropriately.
