Anodizing gives a hardened, smooth, flat surface. Polishing the gears will likely remove or compromise the micro-layer of hard anodization.
Anodising gives a form of lubrication - hence Tuffram etc.

Re: Shimano says no to nylon on CC BFS and Aldebaran BFS?

Nylon absorbs water and has been known to split a spool of an Alvey.

So it's undeniable that it'll do damage to a thin walled spool.

Re: Custom Reel Painting

Wait for it "reels are too complex"... Guns are pretty straightforward and that's their core business. I even tried a anodising specialist and they didn't want to touch a Calcutta because of the dissimilar reel foot and the rest of the bits that are attached to the side gear plate - they didn't know...

Re: Custom Reel Painting

All turned away. Short of doing it yourself seems to be the only case.

Re: Balsa Lures

Halco Australia who bought out Tilsan lures a while back just recently dropped the use of Balsa, the overall cost and the issue of buoyancy, were the main contributor to going to plastic across the line. While Balsa is a nice throwback to the good old days it's use is becoming scarce in today's plas...

Re: How does a worn gears feel when winding?

I don't think your loosing efficiency through the gears per se, but through other associated wear points being the AR and bearings.

Re: Curado M

Is the M sporting the same frame design as the K with the 2 piece composite hood?

I think it looks ok, but keep in mind they design in stages to keep options open for next models.

Re: Why the frak is it ...

Never snapped a tip, but years ago I put a 1-3kg Pflueger Patriarch XTR spin rod run through a door and the security screen door slammed and caught the tip, bent it in a irregular shape and I near died. Opened the door and it sprang back and to this day it's been perfect. What scares me is the 2 kid...

In the side on image with the spiel below it outlining it's "technology" you can see it's a white finish.

Also the Curado 200 M has been shown too.

Older reels feel more utilitarian and have more personality than newer reels.

I mean Bluetooth... Whats next solar powered DC?

Re: Sea Guide Components and the St. Croix Problems

Shimano years ago went to Sea Guides - god what awful and woeful quality they were... When the rods only cost a handful of dollars to manufacture and they charged like crazy for them - the least they could've used was Fuji O Ring's and a lower spec Fuji Seat. However Fuji isn't without its own flaws...

Agreed, but that's how they spin it.
You know winding your spinning reel in reverse allows some of the lost wiped off grease to recoat the main gears teeth.

"Well now you do."
