Re: Value spinning reels. Composite vs aluminum
I have 3 of the 21 caldia's in the 1000s 2500s and c3000 size and really like them, they are the jdm ballistic MQ. You can get them in the $140-160 range right now. I would actually say they are a step up in refinement over the stradic fl which were replaced with the caldia's. I don't have too much ...

Re: Anyone have some time on the new Alphas 800
How does this reel do with the RORO spool for 3-6 gram baits? That's right in the wheelhouse for the spool, I run 6lb line with my 3.6g 3" senkos mostly but it does great with that range of lures. It's a very controlled fixed inductor spool that had a great combo of control and distance with e...

Re: Can I remove reverse switch & parts for Shimano Vanford 500?
There are 3 parts involved with the on/off AR setup. The Cam, spring, and switch. My soare 500 (since sold) was the same reel just different color scheme so I don't have one in front to verify but depending on the cam position for unlocking it may be possible. If the cam presses on the AR bearing to...

Re: Anyone have some time on the new Alphas 800
I have 3 of the alphas 800s. One which I've had since they were first released I turned into a "power bfs" reel. I added steez ct gears and clicking drag and a roro spool, weighs 5.7oz and is about as smooth as it gets. The gears/clicking drag were an easy swap and the reel has been solid ...

Re: 8'-9' Casting rod?
Edge rods has some longer steelhead rods that may fit the bill. I have the first strike FSS865STR (8'6" MH) spinning rod which is rated from 3/8-1oz but in reality its probably more like 1/8-5/8. They have the same blank in a casting build for the first strike and the higher end black widow in...

Re: Daiwa's new reel??
They need to redesign the steez tw (steez ct is perfectly fine as is, tho). That frame is outdated compared to a much less expensive reel, the zillion. Agreed, the current Steez has gotten "long in the tooth", so to speak. When the old steez became outdated is when we got the ss line of r...

Re: Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
I think Shimano Japan website says it's 10gr lighter. That more than likely means the shallow spool WEIGHS 10gr but...who knows https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/product/4770 HH is showing the shallow spool weighs 14.3g I think most of the 10g weight savings is coming from the aluminum main gear.

Re: Metanium shallow edition, who plans to get one?
What uses would you all have for the Shallow Edition? I am thinking for me, pitching plastics on a light Texas Rig. I'm sure enough 14lb line would fit for some pitching and short range casting. I'm thinking the same thing I'd use the aldebaran mgl or steez ct for since they have similar capacity. ...

Re: BFS Casting Reel - Your Line Choice
I'd lose my mind if I lived (and tried to fish) where it ever got to freezing. I'm the same way with the heat and humidity. We usually get a couple weeks worth of the stuff you all deal with down there on a daily basis, that's when I hibernate lol. That is exactly what I thought too when I first mo...

Re: Shim/Washers to Tighten Knobs
.8mm is over .030", that is a lot of play to take out, they may be too thick and bind. I guess you can use locktite if you need to back the screw out a bit.
