Re: Looking for hook for Berkley 7" Ribbontail Power Wo
I'm a big fan of the straight shank for both purposes. Personally I use the Owner straight shank wide gap because I like the heavy wire they use, but I'm sure the gammy will suite you fine.

Thinking of swapping - Viento for Sol
Well, I've had my Viento for a while now and....eh. I mean, I like the reel alright and the twitchin' bar is cool, but I'm just not "blown away" by it. I'm thinking of taking it back for credit and swapping it with a Sol. Will it be worth it, or is there something in that same range that will just m...

They're actually super cheap on Lucky Craft stuff and if they don't have exactly what you need they can do a store-to-store transfer and not charge you shipping.

Re: powell rods
I actually have the 703cb, the big glass rod you're looking at for cranks. It's an absolutely awesome for deep cranking. I can whip a DD22 or Deep Combat CB what seems like a mile and it's all rod doing the work. You can really feel a lot with it, detect when a bait runs into grass, isn't running tr...

Re: How to maintain a vertical fall
Put a little arch on your pitch so it's heading down as it hits. In matted stuff like that, you can make a splash and not spook fish as badly. I actually think it gets their attention in those conditions. Anyway, put arch on it so it has some slack to start down with, then start stripping right away...

Re: 50 bass a day
You've got it narrowed down with time/place, but also the strain of bass has a lot to do with it. When I was a kid, we'd go to Toledo bend and get on schools of bass and literally catch 100 bass in the morning and another 100 after lunch. I still do 50 fish days every now and then on places like Wel...

Re: revo drag/ lb. test dig in?
It's all in how you spool it on. Use a good amt of mono back, then if you have a spooling station crank the feeder spool tension all the way down. It doesn't matter if it's 8lb braid or 80lb braid, if it's on the spool loose and puffy it will dig in. Spool it tight and every 10 casts or so, retrieve...

Re: Powell 734 CF
I have the 733 Flip and the 704c. The 733 is a beast design for heavy duty flipping and frogging, but I have caught myself using it for open water worming and it does just fine. The 704 is rather perfect for crawling football head jigs in deep water. I started my deep water worming and jigging reall...

Re: Berkley - Gulp
Here's the funny thing with what ya'll were just saying about the catfish. I used the sinking minnow (senko knock-off) for bass fishing and I probably had a 3 catfish to 1 bass ratio by the end of the bag. I'm not kidding at all, I got really good at feeling that initial thump and sighing as I reali...

Re: Banjo lures
Yes, I used them. Yes, they caught fish. All they did though was make we learn to throw a fluke because that's basically all it is. An expensive version of a fluke. All the little pieces get lost and there was no place to buy new bodies or screw locks or any of the other tricked up pieces for them. ...

For a true "Walk the dog" motion, the Sammys rule the roost. As far as putting fish in the boat, the older Excalibur Spittin Image Jr. is my #1. Hate to let the cat out of the bag for anyone else that covets these little gems, but I'm in a mushroom cloud laying mood.

Lots of people like me here. Every few years I decide to start over and do something different. Started out installing networks and new PC's in highschool. Went off to college. Got an internship with a now defunct telecom company called Allegiance. They hired me on full time as the Systems Support m...
