Re: I need a big crank rod!

I don't have any experience with these rods, but the first thing that came to mind after reading your post was something from the Black Jungle line, i.e. the Deep Cranking/Slow Rolling or Power Versatile. I'm sure Gary would have some insight. I have the PV, I want more length. I've consi...

Re: Line Twist?

For those that aren't familiar, this most likely isn't the standard spinning reel/line twist issue...It is the constant dropping and reeling in off a drop shot....this twists line like crazy...Options are braid, swivels, untwisting, or respooling, pretty much...a large arbor reel or how you spool th...

Re: NRX comparison 854 / 894

I like the old MBR GLXs for bigger moving baits, but if you are dead set on a heavy NRX for this, you may want to look at the 873 CRR...7'3" may be easier to handle, its a hair softer than the 894 (but more powerful than the 893, 854, etc) and has a slower taper than the 894 as well, which I would l...

They are cheaper and the service is better

I got my 3 NRX rods there and I couldn't be happier.
Stop with the shameless plugs. They have no place here. "Cheaper" and "better" comparatives are weak....

Re: NRX 853 vs 893 c

What was never really mentioned is that the 893 differs from the 853 in more than length...even though they are both 3 powers, the 893 fishes with more power, in my hands and everyone else'sI've ever talked to, than the 853....that's why that is your answer between the 2..as stated, an actual 6" Sen...

Re: Defier users please chime in

I don't know Dan. I tried Spiderwire one time and vowed it would be my last. Looking at diameters this in 8 lb test is the same as Defier in 11 lb test, so I wouldn't be making much headway. This is correct. The 11 is just like usdm 8lb (diameter) ...I have used it for jerk baits quite a bit. How s...

Re: NRX 894 vs NRX 873C

I could go either way depending on a couple of factors. Casting 1/4-3/8 plus plastic, 873...1/2oz with a worm, 873. Close quarters with 3/8-1/2oz, especially with bulky plastic, 894..with considerable cover, 894..I have multiple of both rods and I use the 873s for pitching non bulky plastics and nig...

Re: Sniper vs. Invizx

InvisX is going to win on suppleness and knot strength. Sniper is going to win on (less) stretch, overall strength, sensitivity...all that being said, there are 2 very distinct poles or axis or camps that fluorocarbon can fall into...these two lines happen to both fall on similar sides...the supple,...

Re: DX745 v's GLX894 FPR

The FPR designation is a big deal in the rod ratings...to me, it means to add 2 powers to the label rating, vs. a BCR or JWR..ball park, anyway. The older BCR and the newer JWR serve as a baseline in my mind...and I know an FPR/BCFR or CRR (Carolina rig Rod) is going to fish significantly heavier th...

It fishes with more power than the 873 and way more than the 854.

Re: Rod for large crankbaits

Thank you. I do have other rods to use for the lipless so that is not terribly important. The Dobyns Champion 805 CBRM has become my favorite deep crankbait rod An 8' rod? Wow. In most cases, casting distance is one of the, if not the most important variable in fishing a deep crankbait and getting ...

Re: Rod for large crankbaits

The Dobyns Champion 805 CBRM has become my favorite deep crankbait rod after sending years with the St. Croix Magnum Cranker and Cumara 7'11"MH-F Reaction/CB. It would feel big and cumbersome to me for lipless, as I like to fish them with the tip a little higher.

Re: need input on 7'6" Heavy rods

I had the Steez frog rod forever. It may have been the gem of the line up, but I wouldn't love it for what you are doing...Imaybe a 1oz jig but nothing lighter and no worms....I did like it for punching. It has a stout tip and isn't all that light for a 7'4" Rod, compared to some other high end rods...

Re: sniper 16lb vs 20lb

I'm a fan of SunLine's 20 lb FC, compared to the 16, in most cases....It is similar diameter to most 15-16lb flouro, which isn't a statement about its strength, but rather is handleability in the 20 lb label rating. In other words, I don't think it's overkill...

Re: Nrx 822s vs 852s vs 872s

Sounds like the 852s is the one! How is the glx version of the 852s? How do they compare? I like the handle better on the glx I'm actually the opposite. I dislike the handles on the new glx spinning rods to the point where the blank is irrelevant...I dislike the handle feel that much....of course, ...
