Thanks eveyone for your input. I pulled the trigger on the Daiwa Catalina. I'm not sure if it has brass gears, but I couldn't pass up on the price.
I hate to point this out now, but that is literally the original Tatula frame.

Re: Daiwa Steez Air 2020

I love BFS fishing and in case of moment of inertia of spool can be reduced, it makes BFS fishing even more enjoyable. If momentum of inertia is small, lighter rod can be used. And casting control is better because smaller amount of magnetic brake is enough to control spool. Small diameter of spool...

Re: Sensitive Moving Bait Rods

Are not top water lures moving baits? Where do you stand in terms of buying the most sensitive rod since not much sensitivity is needed as opposed to the ability of the rod to impart action on the lure with little to no effort, to cast accurately ( taking length into account of course) and the abil...

I'd really like to hear what the haters actually want out of daiwa ? :-k
It seems we have some keyboard commando engineers among us...
Oh, come on, there are endless threads about what we want from Daiwa. Here's one that comes up constantly: Z1016

Gary you are really tempting me with AGS Steez rods and my interest has also turned to the Black Labels 8-)
Me too, I really want one of those to go with my future Zillion 10.

Just busting balls I agree with your sensibilities. Truth be told I no longer have a glass in my arsenal, only because I have no need as i am currently chucking shoes  I always loved the security they bring when fighting though and absolutely loved my old Powell Max glass for TW even walkers 8...

Re: Top Water rod for 1ozers

Well I suppose Poisonokie some can adapt better than others and make a rod do what it needs to do relative to the situation imparting action and all :-k I see what you're saying, glass is a lot of fun and really effective for trebles, and like I said before, I like it for things like i-Louds, Pompa...

Re: Daiwa Project T 2020

45m of 6 or 8lb mono is going to limit it's usefulness. Air stream custom type line capacity. Well, you can probably get more than 45m of 6# fluoro, but if you use nylon spooling on more may damage the spool if the line takes on enough water to swell. If you can get 45m of 8#, that should be what? ...

Looks cheap. 🤷‍♂️
right? something about the handle/knob combo and the holes in the frame make it look cheap to me
Maybe Doyo or whoever made the CG reels for Daiwa did such a good job, they let me take the Steez line over.
Wow.
