New Alphas Air winding engangement noise

Hi All, Just received my Alphas Air in the post today. Dropped on an 80mm RCS carbon handle, cork grips and HH Air BFS spool bearings. I noticed something a little strange when winding the handle to engage the reel after pressing down the thumb bar. This noise is something that I have never felt on ...

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103 - the original purple model

From memory the Alphas SV 105 spool goes straight in. You get a choice of colours too.

I have never used that spool before, so I can't really comment on its performance. My favourite spool for the Alphas is definitely the Megabass BF. Then followed by the Megabass Honeycomb.

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103 - the original purple model

I think if you get a decent spool plus new bearings, you'll be pleasantly surprised how light you can go with it. Having a rod that can load up when casting that light helps heaps too.

How light are you wanting to cast?

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103 - the original purple model

Actually it looks like this is Daiwa's saltwater safe light lure king. [url]http://daiwafishing.com.au/products/silver-wolf-z-sv//url] I assume with the TWS system it would be able to throw lighter lures than the Alphas Air. What are your thoughts? I always thought it was just a re-badged T3 with a...

I have an Alphas Air coming from Japan in the next few days. I'll try the spool in my purple Alphas and see for sure.

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103 - the original purple model

You would need to look into getting some decent spool bearings. I use Hedgehog Studio Air BFS in all of my BFS reels. (8 in total)

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103 - the original purple model

Megabass Bait Finesse or Honeycomb for Zonda should go straight in.

I have both reels and spools, so I can test it for you tonight.

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

Mate I fish ryoga 1016's for barra and they handle it effortlessly. The Lin will be fine . That's what I was hoping for! Now I just need to get up north! What's your typical line / leader combo for that? I have some Sunline Super PE in 30lb around here somewhere. No leaders over 12lb though. Might ...

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

Some 4lb Finns would be sweet on that. I'll have to look in to that Finns stuff. I have read good things. I usually just stick with Sunline for everything, but happy to experiment. If the 10lb Castaway is too thick, I might grab some Finns to try. I'm also going to start trying PR knots for all my ...

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

So another new addition arrived in the mail today. My aim was to complement my BFS setups and have an outfit I can switch to, when it's too windy for BFS, or my choice of soft plastic is just too light. It's a Megabass Destroyer "Kirisame Competition" F0-63XKS on a 2016 Daiwa Certate 2004. So far I ...

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

Nice, I feel like I'm on the same bfs quest. I've gone through numerous bfs combos and many of them I didn't keep around long enough... Not having a boat is hard for me too. I would love to be able to put all my rods at once on the deck and spend a few weeks testing, tweaking and making notes as I ...

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

How do you like the ms-x limited compared to the criffhanger & shading-x ? I use the criffhanger for my main bfs rod but have thought about adding the shading-x and ms-x. I actually haven't had a chance to use it yet. I went fishing last week but I was with Dad in his boat, it's a bit small so I co...

Re: First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

Thanks for all the kind words. It's good to finally find a community who understands and appreciates this gear. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this post. Between work, study and a small family, I've been flat out. My setups have morphed a little lately. I have another Zonda Hedgehog re...

First post and my Australian Bass outfits.

Hi all, I've been reading a lot of the posts here for a long time and decided it was about time I posted something. Here's a few photos of some of my gear. I love BFS. It is particularly suited to throwing small plastics and hard bodies (Baby Griffons etc) for the Australian Bass in the rivers and c...
