Re: Metanium MG vs. Antares AR
IMO, the Antares AR is a better reel in every way except weight. And it's not like the AR weighs 10 oz. It actually balances out better than a lighter reel on a lot of my set ups. The first day I received my mg, I tied a 3/8 oz casting plug on and started practice casting in the backyard. I was very...

Re: line suggestions
DR, You should give BPS XPS flourocarbon a try. I have used it for the past few years for everything but topwater. I have tried a lot of the top flourocarbons and it is my favorite. It did pretty well in the flourocarbon review. The 12lb test is perfect on the BCR803. I caught a 7lber this weekend a...

Re: "YOUR" One Favorite Reel
I can't decide. Here is my current top 5 in no particular order, Antares DC7, Conquest 100DC, Antares AR, Conquest 50, and Steez 100H. Close but not in the top 5 yet, Metanium MG7, Stella 2000, Pixy, Revo STX.

Re: My thoughts on the 7'1" steez and Loomis 7'1"
Hard to go wrong with the BCR's for fishing jigs and worms. People complain about the price, but I think they are fairly affordable compared to some of the other rods out there today. Especially if you get a good deal on ebay. Unfortunately, it is getting harder to find those deals. I don't know wha...

Re: Uh oh! Shimano user turned trader!!!
I've never tried either a TD-Z or an 07' Metanium Mg. I'm sure both are great reels....definitely 2 of the best ever made That's a pretty strong statement considering you have never tried either reel. The met mg is nice, but it is not 1 of the 2 best reels ever made. I can't commit on the TD-Z sinc...

St. Croix Legend Elite 6'6" MHF or a St Croix Avid 7'0 MHXF. You might also want to take a look at a Kistler Helium LTA 7'6" H. I don't know why your are ruling out Loomis. The BCR 803 GLX would be the best suggestion I could give you regardless of price.

Based on your specs, I agree with the Kistler Helium 6'9" APC recommendation.

Never used the steez rods. I currently have my antares dc paired with a loomis 843C GLX. I have also used it on a 783. I moved to the 7' rod to take better advantage of the casting distance of the reel.

I returned my SX and replaced it with an STX. Much happier with casting performance overall.

Re: Daiwa Alphas 103: Braided line or monofile line???
I use braid on my alpha for inshore saltwater fishing (mainly redfish). I would go with flourocarbon if you are only fishing jerkbaits. I like a little stretch when fishing treble hook lures.

Re: DING DING!!! G Loomis vs St Croix
I have 6 Legend Elites and 8 GLX (6 BCR's and 2 MBR's) rods. I obviously love them both. The Legend Elites have nicer components. The BCR's are the best rods I have ever used for fishing plastics. You can not go wrong with either blank (LE or GLX).

Spiroh,
BTW, the best football head jig I've fished to date is the Jewel finesse 1/2 oz. with a Paca chunk and the rattles I referenced below. It does have a weedguard.
