Re: Trout baits?
If the fish are far out a simple bait that works well here for trout and casts great is the Bitsy minnow. Shad or firetiger work well here.

Re: Trout baits?
What is the depth and visibility? I have the bottom three rods you listed. Out of those rods I would have a hard time ever putting the trickster down. The Teton L can be a fun Panther Martin or Bitsy minnow rod and the Volkey may be fun with soft plastics around an 1/8th. However the Trickster is a ...

Re: A rod ahead of its time
I feel that way about my Fenwick ACES I bought this spring when they came out. The rod is in the low 80 gram range, can throw 1 gram lures, and yet has the power to land 10 pound bass. Fenwick still makes some truly amazing rods just not domestically anymore.

Re: Calcutta Conquest BFS
Anybody with some further thoughts on the Aldebaran BFS vs. Scorpion BFS vs Calcutta Conquest BFS? I have a couple Aldebaran BFS, have used a Scorpion and haven't used a Conquest yet. Obviously the Conquest has the best build quality and will be the smoothest. The weight keeps me away for now. Both...

Re: Best line for light lures
I have tried a lot of different lines and always come back to Gliss. The dyed versions perform alright but I have found nothing that compares performance wise to 8lb white Gliss for light lures. I fish a lot of trout and it's the only braid category line that I can comfortably pitch under two grams ...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
I love mine. It's a BFS rod and as such has an emphasis on power yet being an UL has a very sift tip. I'm curious about how it performs targeting tout. Judging by how spindly and whippy trout rods are I wonder if the Trickster UL has too much backbone. I use mine to target bass and other sunfish th...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
Whelp, the last STC-63UL is gone. They still have the STC-64L in stock. I grabbed it, can't wait to try a solid tip! I fish exclusively small plastics in the 1-4.5 gram range and always feel a disconnect with tube rods. Please report back once you have some time with it. I've only fished it once an...

Re: 15 Aldebaran BFS vs. 16 Aldebaran BFS
The reels are pretty much the same but the braking system is so much better on the 16.
It depends on what you want to use it for.Big-Bass wrote:Should I wait for a Calcutta BFS?

Re: Aldebaran BFS for saltwater redfish?
The stock spool is very sturdy and you should be able to fish very tight drag no problem. 100 yards of micro braid should fill the spool about halfway and will cast great. The only issue is the max drag I believe is only 3lbs.

Re: Aldebaran BFS for saltwater redfish?
The 16 Aldebaran BFS I think should hold up fine. It has very tight tolerance reminiscent of many revos, unlike a lot of non Japan made Shimano's. It also has a good chunk of CI4+ which my CI4+ spinning reels have held up to salt better than anything else I've owned. I have a few 16 Aldebaran BFS an...

Re: What is your finesse casting rod?
Please report back once you have some time with it. I got to cast my Teton around the yard a little yesterday. A PX68 w/ a DYI spool is way too much for me on that rod, I don't have the thumb for it. Switching back to the stock spool and upping my lure to ~3g was the ticket and I was getting good d...

Re: Who is using BFS casting gear for trout/panfish
It's that gear you keep in the attic unless it's raining really hard and you don't want bits of sand/mud getting inside your reel and damaging your shallow spool lol.Black Haze wrote:whats this spinning gear you speak of?
