Okuma Avenger

This popped up in a WallyWorld clearance section in spite of me NEVER seeing them at all on the shelves there. For $30 why not ? , let’s be realistic here we’re not going for muskies. It’s a 1000 size, eventually when I open it up I’ll post some weights, pics of the insides and my initial thoughts. ...

Re: Budget Ultralight Spinning Rods

While visiting our daughter in North Carolina I stumbled on a one piece 7’ Falcon Bucoo UL spinning rod for $49.99 at Academy so I grabbed it. I’d say it’s actually more of a L than a UL but I wanted something a tad beefier. It’s pretty boring aesthetically, typical Bucoo gray EVA foam grip and stra...

Re: Tsurinoya XF-50 Budget BFS Reel Teardown & Evaluation

Just a follow up, it’s 3 years later and this reel is still humming along nicely for me. While I’m not utilizing it for a true BFS application, it has found it’s niche on small hardbaits in the 1/16 - 1/4 oz range. It’s performed flawlessly within it’s intended scope, I have no complaints. I’m curio...

Re: Unsold Fishing Reels

It’s likely a mixture of some of the above mentioned scenarios. They do a lot of research beforehand before production even begins to determine how many units they’ll sell, excess inventory is taboo in virtually every business in existence. There is probably very little excess to begin with. Another...

Re: Best cheap spool pin remover

This Basszone one has done well by me. Can be found on fleabay for under $15.00

A touch of light grease on the threads will go a long way towards keeping them in good shape. Friction kills

That feeling …

… you know the one I’m talking about. When your rod loads up with a quality fish on a moving bait. The fight is on, open water away from cover, drag functioning well, everything going to plan … Then …. Nothing. Unbuttoned. Poof. Gone like a fart in the wind. Not a breakoff, hooks were sharp, leader ...

Re: Most important tools in history

Any “top ———“ lists will be arbitrary at best and will inspire debate but that’s part of the fun now isn’t it ? :D

Most important tools in history

Older article but still thought provoking. I’m posting it because the fish hook made the list. In spite of all of the technology & complexity that defines modern angling, it still all comes down to the simple fish hook who’s basic design from the beginning remains the same. Who’d have thought a simp...

Re: Greasing drags

The absolute smallest amount spread extremely thin. Enough to show a fingerprint on the surface of the washers and nothing more.

Re: To Spiral Or Not to Spiral... what is your preference?

One last question - is the fact that I use left hand retrieve reels have any bearing ; in other words does the layout of the guides matter in that respect ?
