Re: SS SV upgrades

Well, the most obvious upgrade is adding bearings to the knobs. They don't have any, so that alone will help quite a bit.

Re: SS SV upgrades

I like the angled front plate. I wish they would've carried that over to the Zillion SV from the previous TWS model.

Re: SS SV upgrades

I got a tatula type r drag star for mine, but you need to add a washer underneath it for that to work. Once you do, it's brilliant. I also got an 85mm handle for it. I like the drag, I found it to be as smooth as possible for lighter lines, so I left that alone.

Re: What's Your Favorite Topwater Bait? ~~~~~~<:------<<

Rico is my go to. I bought one of these and was sorely disappointed. The hooks were crap and one was bent out. The paint was sketchy. I wrote a TW review about it, but it was mysteriously never posted. I think it's all a bunch of hype. I put some st-36's on it and have yet to catch anything. Certai...

Or a Volkey 68L/bfs. I got mine for 150 shipped.

Re: Why should I buy a Daiwa Zillion J-Dream?

It's probably the best version of one of the best reels ever, and therefore a luxury. If i had one it would probably never see the water. I agree that you could fairly inexpensively take a regular Zillion and tune it up to make it comparable, but it won't be the same. Really, out of the box Zillions...

I just ordered an Evergreen Justine (JT95, 3/8) and I think it's gonna slay. I always thought a Zara Puppy would, but I can't get mine to walk right.

Everything evergreen is top notch. I agree, the One's Bug blows everything else out of the water.

This is impossible to answer. The Megabass i-Loud Prop Darter is up there, but in a world of Shower Blows, Pompadours, Binksies, Whopper Ploppers, and about a thousand others, there simply can't be only one. Never fished a Buzzjet, but I'm sure they're awesome, too.

Re: Rod for topwater poppers/jerkbaits?

It depends on how you present the bait, too. If I'm doing a twitch-twitch-pause I'd rather have an extra fast, because I'm kind of fishing it like a jig and the fish are kind of biting like a jig. Once I feel them take the bait, i set the hooks like a jig, even though they're trebles because the bai...

It also depends on which direction the line is being pulled as to whether or not a certain rod resembles that chart. If you're holding the lure and pulling it back toward your waist it will flex much differently than it will when you're pulling against a snag 20 ft in front of you.

Re: Rod for topwater poppers/jerkbaits?

I actually use a 6'5" med lite mod fast with braid for poppers and jerkbaits. The upper lure weight limit is 1/2 so it works great with 110's on down to the 3/16 duo jerkbat. It handles Rico"s, OB's, and Binksy's like a champ, too. I also throw jerkbaits on the solid tip tatula with 10# fluoro, but ...
