Re: Swinging fish into the boat

I only swing fish when they are already on their way, would rather quick flip a fish that's jumping all over the place into the boat than try to hold them down at the side of the boat. I feel that in situations like that you can use the momentum of the fish to get it into the boat to put minimal pre...

Re: a new MGX coming soon?

It's gonna need a shallow spool & different braking system to get serious consideration from me, along with finding it for closer to $350 than $500, which I don't think will be too hard. If it's just an MGX with some red bling & .5oz shaved off it, I'll just pick up another MGX or STX & save some s...

Re: Yamamoto Single tail grubs

They are nice and have some great colors but they are a one fish bait, which takes up time and money. For certain colors I'll use them but otherwise I use action plastics or kalins.

Re: Getting A Frog Ready To Fish

I just trim the legs so it's easier to walk, and I also leave the tag end of my braid longer than usual, pinch it between my nails and then light the end on fire. it makes it wider at the end which stops the line from slipping through the knot on big hook sets.

Re: Flippin hooks

I actually like the superline worm hook better than the heavy cover hook, i feel that with the heavy cover you go all the way through the fishs mouth and the hook point grabs alot of grass. with the superline hook you still get a really solid hookset but dont get all the extra grass. I tie my own ke...

Re: Dobyns VS Duckett

There really is no comparison between the two, the saavy series is the only close rod to the duckets, and it is still superior.

$60 to replace a rod no hassle with Dobyns, thats what I'd go with.

I use a coalition weapon 735 for frogging , either that or the savvy 735 will be perfect for what your looking for.

Re: Why are 7'3"/7'4" rods normally preferred for Froggin?

I use a Dobyns 735 for my froggin, you dont really want a rod that's too short because then you will have problems moving line on the hookset/ getting leverage on the fish and so on, you also don't want a rod that is too long because it will weigh more, may not be alot, but at the end of the day you...

Re: Flippin Stick...which Dobyns should I buy?

I love my 795 for everything, have heard the dx745 is a great jig rod though. How's the 795 for punching? I ask because it's an MH...and punching may require something sturdier. like MDisbrow said the 795 isnt far off in power at all from the 805, and because it does have a little more tip its more...

Re: Dobyns 733C VS 734C

Wow! It sounds like everybody agrees that the 733 is the best. Thanks for the imput. I have already purchased both of these rods. What do you guys use the 735 for? I am thinking heavier buzzbaits and frogs/toads. there is another thread talking about the best frog rod and it was obvious that the 73...
