Re: gear ratio / power / speed

Its one of those things where you actually have to tell yourself to slow down....And I think we all have a preferred speed in which we like to turn a handle crank. Regardless of gear ration...A lower geared reel just allows you to focus more on what the bait is doing than reminding yourself to slow ...

Re: Best $100 Trolling Linecounter Reel?

Embarrassed to say.....With over a dozen Tiagras.....A slew of Torsas.....A few pounds of Talica 2's and Stellas.............We troll monel wire with the okuma convectors for bass........The drag sucks at best....Its either half a pound or ten pounds.......I hate them as much as I hate trolling bunk...

Re: Closing the bail by hand

It doesn't eliminate line twist. (You'll get plenty of line twist on the retrieve. )But it 100% eliminates that slack line loop from forming which will cause a back lash on the following cast. You probably know that this occurs when the line coming off the reel pulls the loop which in turn pull line...

Re: Swim Jig & Jig Trailers?

Yamamoto SwimSenkos, Strike king rage craw, Berkley chigger craw. Occasionally I'll use hollow body swimbaits with big paddle tails if spinnerbaits and topwater/ wake baits arent producing. Bladerunner and Revenge swim jigs are what i use. Noticed after the fact that Blade runner recommends swim sen...

Re: What is your favorite go to line to fish spinnerbait?

Standard Suffix performance braid in 40lb.

Smooth enough that its pretty quiet, and abrasive enough that tearing of grass, algae, weeds, and muck is made much easier than with Jerry Brown, and other super smooth braids.

Re: Stella SW VS Sustain FG

I know its late. But the big advantage is the SW is virtually waterproof. It can withstand repeated dunkings. The only thing I wouldn't do is crank it underwater. I have numerous SW8k and 10k reels that I use for surf duty (used to have a pair of ZeeBaas early model GEN 2 junk) and serve double duty...

Re: Wal-mart steps up in rod market

If you're from Jersey and support walmart's fishing dept you should be ashamed. There are countless quality tackle shops that have everything you would need. Support them instead of the mom and pop shop killer. Not trying to sound rude. But for 5 bucks why not buy from a place where the staff actual...

i throw it on a 5/0 hook either texas or shakey head.. my favorite 10" worm!!! Yeah I just might do that. Just saw a Tacklewarehous Vlog with someone on falcon lake using a 13" worm and a 5/0 hook. Seems to be the ticket. Who'd a thunk it....A fellow SOL'er comes through with the answer...LOL Yer f...

Re: Reel Grease question

Yamalube blue marine grease. Very tacky. Works great in spinners and baitcasters. Does not imulsify easily with water. Very consistant in all temps. From my abu's to Zee baas reels. It is the only one I use. That and reelx. Screw the over priced reel manufacturer labeled greases. Hot sauce.....LOL ...

Power team Hammer worm 10" what hooks.

I've been using a up to a 7/0 ewg trokar hook with the owner cps spring ( as the trokar one tears out way too easy) , and an owner beast 11/0 offset worm hook. My issue is I love fishing them weightless around reall heavy hard cover. My issue is the weight of the hook doesn't offer enough keel to ke...

Re: Shimano crucial...disapointed

It sounds funny but handling the compre to the cumara. The 2012 line up just seems like a step backwards. It really is interesting. I've come to notice over the years that about 75% of my gear says shimano on it...........Imagine that..... I've never owned a rod in a series lower than the crucial. A...

Re: Which taper do u use for a spinnerbait?

fast action. As I can pop it to bust it through grass easier. It also is easier to wake a spinnerbait with a fast action rod. It is also MUCH easier to burn/wake and kill/freefall and repeat with a faster tip. You will break a spinnerbait easier with a fast action stick with braid than with a more p...

Re: Cumulus 7' 1' mh

I fell in love with this stick last spring. So much so I bought two more. Its a great all around rod. I used it primarily for throwing spinnerbaits and swim jigs. Which it works beautifully with. My only complaint is the factory butt is a tad short for cranking in resistant baits. I've never owned a...

Re: Recoil guides

Even with adding tungsten to the nitinol alloy. It only ups the hardness to around the mid 700's. If you take straight Nitinol which I believe they use. Its hardness after shaping and annealing it is around 500. It is a relatively soft alloy. I find it funny that a size 20 recoil ring costs twice th...
