I am asking because i have a handle off of a calcutta tedc100 that has reverse threaded nuts on the handle knobs but all of my other shimano handles have standard threaded knob nuts. Is this normal?

That sounds like a dobyns dx statement with their heavy (balanced) rods. It depends what tech your using as to how i would want my rod balanced. I would choose a 3.8oz.
