How Versatile is the 765C?
I'm thinking about adding another rod or two to my Dobyns collection. The 765C looks interesting to me. I know it's a flip/pitch rod and that'll be one use for it but what else can it do well? I know Supermatt throws big swim jigs on it. What's everyones opinion on it for big (3/4 & up) footballs an...

Re: Do braid scissors work?
You don't need serated teeth or super sharp titanium. Get the $3 Fiskars kid scissors from WalMart. They work great, have blunt tips and last a long time. I have several pairs, one in each of my tackle boxes that I've had for several years and all of them cut like the day they were new. X2. Fiskars...

Re: I need a 7' hm bait casting advice
Take a look at the Shimano Crucial CRC-70MH. I've gone to Dobyns for most of my other rods but I have a pair of these I've had for about 4 years and can't seem to find a good reason to get rid of 'em. They're light, sensitive, and the warranty can't be beat. They're also $160...good stuff.

Re: Which Dobyns for Flick Shake?
I crappie fish with a pair of 701's. I've caught a few bass with 'em as well. My opinion would be go with the 702 or 742, the 701 is a great little rod and I'll be getting another one (don't ask why ) but to bass fish, day in and day out, I think it's a little light.

Dobyns DX series has my vote. I've got DX701's and DX742's. The sensitivity can't be beat, I caught a 3" warmouth in 20' of water a couple of weeks ago on my 742, I felt a definite thump even though the fish wasn't much bigger than the LFT Baby Shad I was fishing.

And they're actually bigger than the photo shows. Matthew is 6'7" and has hands to match. I call him Shrek when I'm pullin' his chainFishingboy wrote:Amazing! those crappies are huge!

I Love Spring Fishin'!!
Went out Friday to chase crappie but found something a little bigger along the way: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd188/TxBuddha_2007/P4010008.jpg We managed a few crappie too. Here's my buddy Matthew Carroll, owner of Jigum Jigs, with a few: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd188/TxBuddha_20...

Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
Nice rigs Ranger! I'm fishing out of a lowly Nitro 750 but it gets me there and back. Our tourney trails here aren't artificial only but jig fisherman outnumber minnow fisherman probably 2:1. I fish hand tied feather jigs and plastics 95% of the time but will fish minnows when I have to. The fish a...

Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
I'll let you guys in on a little secret....spider rigging is WORK. Yes, I capatalized all that. It's all I can do to keep up with 2 rods w/ 2 hooks each if I'm by myself. A partner helps but if you've got 6-8 rods in the water & 12-16 hooks to keep baited and unhung it's a like an organ grinders mon...

Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
This kind of gear isn't for everyone but the way I look at it is I don't have anywhere near the $$ invested that most bass fisherman do and I enjoy using the higher end stuff. I also understand that having over a grand tied up in 4 combo's may be somewhat over the top but WTH. I've got a friend that...

Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
For certain applications. I've got several Cardiff 100's spooled with 10# Stren that I use to spider rig and to "dap" brush and timber with. They're all mounted on 8' & 10' Pro Angler rods.angler96 wrote:Sweet gear. Do you ever use casting gear for crappies?
