I knew they were coming out with a new Jack Hammer rod a few months ago when I talked to Ben from THUT. I was asking why he didn't stock JDM Evergreen rods and he let the cat out of the bag by accident. It might be worth trying. There's not many rods out there for $450 that have titanium Fuji guides.

I bet it's really similar in action to the 894 NRX. Him and his brother loved jig fishing with that rod. They use 7/16 oz compact jigs with small Zoom chunk trailers.

I have all of the NRX+'s that you mention, and for 1/2-5/8oz drop shot in current, hands down 872S. One of the best rods of all time for smallmouth. Honorable mentions go to the 902S, or possibly a Conquest 902S for deep dropshotting, however I know some folks don't like the more moderate taper tha...

Unfortunately JDM Daiwa reels that have Magsealed bearings are often non-serviceable outside of Japan. It's one of those inconvenient truths many have had to face when buying the less expensive JDM version and an issue arises. It works year round. I really like it post cold front, prespawn for smallmouth when they are cruising. It seems like it out produces finesse swimbaits in that scenario.
