Re: Best Lipless Crankbait
I've used a bunch (and bought even more) over the years. I've had some great days on a number of different brands and colors, but my favorites are definitely the XCaliburs and Team Daiwa Vibs.

Re: Megabass V. Evergreen
Alright so if i were to consider the Orochi XX, still curious what the diablo type R is like? whats its strengths and such? Now is definitely the time to try a XX with $100 off at Tackle Trap and other vendors. I have several XX Diablo Spec Rs. Use them for 3/8 - 3/4 spinnerbaits, 3/8-1/2 chatterba...

Re: Best rod for Whopper Plopper (sizes 110 and 130)
My $0.01 (not $0.02 because I don't throw a Plopper much)... I've thrown the 130 WP and Deps Buzzjet on a Megabass Black Jungle Deep Cranking and Slow Rolling rod and XX Perfect Pitch. The Black Jungle is rated lighter than both weigh but handles them pretty good, however, I use the Perfect Pitch ar...

Re: Orochi XX - Extreme Mission Type F - Do I need it?
This is Tackle Tour, the correct answer is yes you need it. The correct answer was posted immediately ... see above. Just my $0.02 on the EMTF. IMHO, it is an incredible senko, fluke, northern style swim jig, and open hook swim bait (sweet spot is 1/4 - 3/8oz with up to 5" hollow belly swimbait) ro...

Re: best all around rod for spinnerbaits, chatter baits and
XX Diablo Spec R, or if you want something shorter, the Spinnerbait Special. The two listed above are certainly good all around spinnerbait / chatterbait rods for 3/8oz and above, or 1/4oz swim jig with trailer. I'd also throw in the XX Extreme Mission. In terms of jigs worked on the bottom, I pref...

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait
For years I had at least 1 spinnerbait tied on at all times... now I go weeks or more without having one tied one. Back in the day I loved the Nichols Pulsators with metal flake blades, particularly the 3/8oz with double size 4 willows from later spring thru early Fall. In the cooler months it was a...

Re: Do you prefer umbrella skirts?
I typically use the Umbrella style skirts when they are tied (wire or braid) on my 'Northern Style' swim jigs or when using the 'old school' flat rubber spinnerbait skirts. I also use them in clearer water on spinnerbaits when I don't want the fish to see much of anything (other than the blades) as ...

My choices...
MB XX Flatside Special or MB Black Jungle Deep Cranking Slow Rolling. Either of these work around wood, rocks, and grass unless you are fishing grass so thick you need a punching weight to get through, then I'd move to a Diablo Spec.

Re: Rod and reel storage in between trips
I store rods and reels on a large vertical 'turn table' style rod rack I bought a few years back. Typically have my Cole's Rod Socks on them as well.

Re: What are you using to clean, lube, grease your reels?
Here is what I use... 1) Clean bearings with brake cleaner. 2) Rubbing alcohol on rag and q-tips for 'body' parts, handle, etc (basically non lubed external parts). 3) I still have a bunch of TD and Abu Garcia grease from a ways back, still works good and use it on worm gears. 4) Depending on the re...

Re: Looking to upgrade: Megabass XX Flatside Special or Dobyns 705CB
Last year I switched over from some trusty Powell 706CBs to several Dobyns 705CB Glass and XX Flatside Specials. After using them this year, my plan is to sell the the 705CB Glass rods and purchase a couple more XX FSSs. I use these rods for smaller square bills, jerkbaits, poppers, traps, and walke...

Re: Best light wire swim jig rod
My Megabass Orochi XX Flatside Special is perfect for lighter wire swim jigs. I fish 1/4 oz northern style swim jigs on a pretty fast rod and often have to give the tip a sharp pop to bring the jig through grass. For those of you that throw light wire swim jigs on a slower rod, do you feel like you...
