Re: Best dropshot rod for 1/2-5/8 ounce weights in deep, clear water

You don’t need two topics for this. Just buy a NRX+ 872 and be done with it. That’s the rod you want.

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

Nice grab, the 21 Airity is an awesome, cost effective choice right now for sure. I’ve got the previous model SLP Works 2500SS spool that I love for the smaller sizes. I run it off/on with a 22 Exist, the main difference being the previous drag sound isn’t as good (18 Exist, 21 Airity, etc) as the 2...

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

I did preface this entire thing by saying this isn’t a popular TT opinion because I was aware the vast majority will immediately chime in arguing about it. Im not even referring to start up inertia, I said winding. Like winding in a spybait. I’m a big fan of the Exist and Airity, but I’m also object...

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

I’m just calling it like I’ve seen it. I’ve used all the same reels, read all the same marketing hype… I’m comfortable defending my personal observations and I’m fine if others have different experiences with it. There’s variation reel to reel but mine are very cut and dry. There’s a very obvious re...

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

Most people aren’t even talking about the same “winding” thing anyway but if you line up a set of Exist/Airity/Certate vs Stella/Vanquish, actually wind them, there’s no question the Shimanos have a lower resistance, lighter touch, airy winding feel. The people responding in this thread have tested...

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

Like I said, I’m willing to acknowledge it’s not a popular opinion on TT. Lots of Daiwa users will not agree, that’s fine. Most people aren’t even talking about the same “winding” thing anyway but if you line up a set of Exist/Airity/Certate vs Stella/Vanquish, actually wind them, there’s no questio...

Re: Spy Bait Reel - High End

If you like the 4000 diameter spools then I’ll leave that size debate alone. I do think the new Shimano line lay in combination with the long spool profile out-casts Daiwa currently, especially on the larger/taller spools with very small diameter line. For the fluoro sizes you’re thinking I would ab...

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity

Sunline is coming out with “Almight” this spring that will be 1.48 SG. Looking forward to trying that one. Their Defier D Braid is very nice and similar specific gravity to YGK SS112 (actually very slightly higher). The YGK SS140 has worked fine for me as well (it’s not wiry at all in the small size...

Re: 2022 Exist

You clearly have a strong preference for Daiwa and that’s fine if you feel that way. Can’t say I’ve ever run into the Shimano-is-greedy and Daiwa isn’t opinion before. I still agree with the other comments, I have fished all of these reels and for true saltwater use, I would get a Shimano.

Re: 2022 Exist

As much as the 22 Exist is a nice reel, for what you’re describing I would recommend looking at a 22 Stella instead. If you are really in need of super light weight, and can wait for the release, the new 23 Vanquish also will be great. This might open up a Daiwa vs Shimano can of worms but the Stell...

Re: Fun new EG rods and other goodies

Spider Spin is the clear winner for me. Between this and the Steez RC 68MH it’s nice to see a JDM trend emerging toward some heavier spinning rod options.

Re: New 2023 JDM Reels

The Conquest 100 is the new 50 (and has been for almost a decade now). I doubt you’ll ever see a smaller frame than that again in the Conquest lineup but they will play with tuning/spool options for the BFS type stuff. It’s all gonna be public tomorrow for the show, so just hang tight for roughly an...

Re: New 2023 JDM Reels

Pretty much everything will be announced tomorrow for the Japan show this weekend. Here’s the list of rumors I’ve seen (mostly credited to Japan Tackle): Shimano 2023 NEW Conquest 300/400 MD Antares DC MD Calcutta Conquest BFS Metanium DC? Scorpion? Vanquish spinning Stradic spinning Daiwa 2023 NEW ...
