Re: Jigs hook size????
Wow to answer your question, you will have to find out what works for you. Instead of going bigger or smaller, I would take the suggestion of smalljaw, and use a different hookset or a rod. I make my own jigs and I have fished all sizes, styles and weights. I have finally found what consistently wor...

Re: Finesse Jigs
I tie my own and its a Snootie jig in 1/8 or 3/16 oz. It's a take off of a bitsy bug.

Re: If you could pick just ONE jig...
I would pick my own version of the bitsy bug in my ultimate blk/blu color, 1/8 or 3/16 oz. Better hook and better skirt quality. That's what started me making jigs the poor quality and color availability of SK bitsy bug. Trailer would be a Netbait chunk

Wow, you finished those up really nice. Job well done. I really like all of those especially the Emerald Shad and Blueback. Those will definitely catch some fish.

Re: Favorite Jig Strategy
I always tell this story because about 3 years ago, I was a die-hard, crank-bait fisherman. You would never, ever see me with a jig. The I went out fishing with one of my customers, and he just kicked my butt fishing jigs while I used crank-baits. After that day I never looked back. He showed me how...

Re: Favorite Jig Strategy
Jason, You do something very similar to what I do. I used to buy the SK Bitsy Bug, and found them very cheap and inferior in quality. Then I went and bought a Snootie Mold and pour my own with my own hook. I use the 1/8 oz jig with a round silicone skirt and trim back my weedguards as well. An excel...

Re: spinnerbait rubberband
Unfortunately, the rubber collar whether on a jig or a spinnerbait is susceptible to water and heat rot from either sitting in the sun, on a boat or in a hot tackle box. However the collars now are usually silicone and normally that shouldn't happen. But like anything else that is mass produced, may...

Re: Hack attack jig
Funny you mention that, but everything seems to be a copy of something whether from the past or currently. Not many really innovative ideas.legendaryyaj wrote:I was told that jig was a copy of a jig that is used widely down on Amistad by locals.

Re: Hack attack jig
In building jigs for so long,I have had guys ask me about that jig as well. When I saw a hack attack jig, they were originally designed for heavy brush and timber. So I noticed early on that they do have a super strong hook and most of all a very heavy weedguard. After seeing the components that mak...

Re: Am i a fool for using mono ??
I have been fishing mono for many years. Several years ago I tried fluoro and braid. I used them both for three years. I gave up on the braid after the first year and gave up on fluoro this past year. Don't care for either. I'm going back to good quality mono. It is a personal thing though, if you c...

Re: Stripping powder coat on jigs
Are you looking to buy a fluid bed or make one? If you want to make one PM me your e-mail and I will send you instructions on how to build one. It's not that difficult to do, and since you can pour jigs you can easily make a fluid bed. Hotter is not better. There is a fine balance between really hot...
