Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
Sweet set-ups. =D> =D> =D> How do you like the DX742SF TxBuddha? So far, so good. Yesterday was the first time I've been able to fish it and other than the line I was using it was great! I spooled up some P Line CX HiVis in 8# instead of my preferred Fireline/fluoro and while there's nothing wrong ...

Re: Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
Why such heavy gear? I've only caught crappie twice. One day was with a jig and bobber on 2lb test, the other time was on a vision 110 when bass fishing. Most of our crappie fishing here in TX is done over sunken brush piles in 10'-30' of water or in and around standing timber in the same depths. U...

Tackle Enthusiast (Ho'?) - Crappie Style
Who said tackle hos' have to be bass fisherman? http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd188/TxBuddha_2007/P3200001-1.jpg Top to bottom: St Croix Legend Tournament Walleye TWS76MLF Shimano Stradic 2500 w/ 20# Power Pro This is my jig & bobber rig. The reason for the 2500 size reel is ease of casting due...

Re: Which Dobyns Spinning Rod for Shakey Heads
I fished my 742 yesterday and I'm suitably impressed. It has just the action I was looking for in that it's got more power than my 701 without being too heavy for my use (crappie). The back bone about about a third of the way down the rod while the tip is still light enough to see the lighter bites....

Re: Dobyns DX701 spinning
I've got Stradic 1000's on mine and they balance perfectly IMHO. Unless you need the line capacity or increased drag of a 2500 stay with the 1000.

Re: Dobyns DX701 spinning
I don't bass fish but I do crappie fish and since last fall I've been using a pair of DX701SF's. I think you'll find it perfect for the weight range you fish. I fish brush piles in 12'-25' of water using 1/8 oz jig heads and various plastics and hand tied jigs. I've caught several bass up to about 4...

Re: Which Dobyns Spinning Rod for Shakey Heads
Mine showed up yesterday. Got a new Stradic 1000 and a fresh spool of 10# Fireline waiting on it!
The highly scientific "switch" test tells me it may be what I was looking for. The tip seems to be a bit heavier than my DX701 but not as heavy as my Champion 702. The crappie are tremblin'

Re: Fireline Crystal + FC Leader?
I've been fishing 10# Fireline tied to 8# InvisX for about a year with no issues. Your line to leader knot does matter though. Try the Modified Albright / Alberto knot: http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/fishing-tutorials-members/155715-spectra-mono-connection-modified-albright.html I haven't broken ...

Re: Dobyns DX702SF vs DX742SF
Civicrr, IIRC you stated that the DX742SF seemed to be about a half power lighter than your Champion 702SF. Am I remembering that correctly and do you still have that impression? I crappie fish in a big way. Started out last year with a pair of Champion 702's and upgraded to DX701SF's later. Both wo...

I don't know how it'll fish yet but I've got a 742 inbound. The lost thread was at least part of the reason I bought it....

Re: Dobyns 681sf
Can't really comment on how it would cast the lighter stuff since most of my fishing is vertical but I think it would work OK. The Extreme series is amazing!

Re: Dobyns 681sf
I don't know about the 681SF but I'm fishing a pair of DX701SF's. They're a light action without a doubt. I handled a 681 recently and it seemed to be lighter in action than my 701's. I was crappie fishing yesterday using my 701's and a 1/8 oz jig head. The wind was howling and I was having a tough ...
