Re: Now that time has passed, opinions on recoil guides

Hope you don't mind me chiming in... just noticed that your post is guided at somebody in particular. Well for one with recoils you'll have more surface area and hold for water due to the coiling on the NiTi wire. While it doesn't freeze here I know that water flows of the guides and if that water i...

Re: Fuji's new thinner SIC insert

Looks like the market is demanding something cheaper than Torzite still... Sic is still by far one of the best materials hands down for guides, Gold Cermet (RIP) and Torzite are just too expensive IMHO for our builds - unless your looking at custom buildes etc. Going for knots - the FG is by far one...

Re: Can someone school me on JDM Daiwa spinning reels?

Could you elaborate on how/why the 2016 Certate is far superior to the 2013 model? I don't see many differences but have 2 13' Certate's and am a fan in general. Thanks. The way that the rotor bail trip mechanism is seperated from the bail trip spring this year, gearset seems to be again just that ...

Re: Best way to strip guides on a rod?

Heat is your friend. I warm the wrap with an alcohol torch. A heat gun or hair dryer would help as well. Then with my X-Acto knife I slice open the wrap on the top of the guide foot cutting from the tip to the leg. That big section can just get peeled off. Then I unwind the remainder of the wrap. S...

Re: Can someone school me on JDM Daiwa spinning reels?

Certate is full body aluminium. Some other Daiwa reels with Zaion frames Caldia, Ballistic etc (just share the same platform, bearing count & colour / gear ratio change), sometimes come with a metal side frame plate. Which is confusing tbh as the original idea was to keep weight down? The Certate is...

Re: question on shimano spool/pinion

From what I can make of it is. Disengaged, the pinion gear moves up still in contact with the pinion bearing but the pinion ramps disengage from the spool pin, thus freeing the spool for the cast. When the pinion moves up the shaft of the spool, the spools shaft has some modified thicknesses where i...

Re: I don't understand Enigma Rods

The kiwi's in Aus would love them, they'd match their high visibility clothing they're so well known to wear near 100% of the time, and even to formal events.

Re: Curado 70 Mystery

Get a pair of digital calipers and measure the ID of the bearing with the back tips on both side of the bearing race and compare to the OD of the pinion where it mates with the ID of the bearing and try every 1/4 turn of the pinion, look for any irregularities?

Re: handle bearings

A very light oil and grease mix on bushings help. With bearings apply some grease to the handle shaft post before adorning the bearing and spin it slowly while pushing it down, it makes a face seal of grease on the bearing, which'll help stop water entering them. Depends on how wet you fish your ree...

Re: More false advertising from shimano

I see the Shimano incident being acceptable. I cant stand when professional fishermen get stuff wrong all the time. When they talk about rods, reels, and so forth and they say bogus stuff after supposedly using the product for months prior to the release, it kills me. x2 Did anybody know that the S...

Re: reels with clutch for swimbaits?

Find a reel with a internal dog and pawl AR helper. Older Curado reels had them over the newer reels which are now rated to only 5kg of drag.

If they're made from the same graphite plastic frn material and share the same dimension frame they should be near enough exactly the same.

Re: More false advertising from shimano

Weight savings and cost primarily for the reels overall cost, I mean I honestly can't tell the difference cranking wise between my Ultegra 1000 & Stradic 1000 FJ in everyday use. Both reel frames undergo a similar frame manufacturing process, however there are more steps in a aluminium frame and cos...

I'm putting my 2 bob on that the Nasci is a XTG7 graphite frame and the Hagane refers to the gears alone.
