Re: Very disappointed with the new Quantum Smoke
I really hope that Tackle Tour could look at the actual reels on the market... part of the reason I went ahead and sold my Curado was because of the stellar review and the editors choice award... TT only reviews production equipment. Cal, Zander and JIP do not post reviews on prototypes or pre-prod...

Re: Where to get Daiwa spools from?
The stuff that came over to the US you can get from Daiwa USA...like the 100M Gigas spool, for example.
For purely JDM spools, I like two places: Japan Tackle and Plat. You'll also find used spools on the For Sale forum and auction sites on occasion. Ichiban will have used ones come through too.

Re: St. croix 5s76MF custom. with fuji micro K series
line guide upgrade wont get me anymore performance, so i will not do it. If you can tell me there is some measurable increase in performance with a different line guide, i am all ears. of course the drags and bearings are upgraded. I couldnt do this as a spinning rod replacement with out the stock ...

Re: Very disappointed with the new Quantum Smoke
First of all - shame on Quantum for letting factory seconds be sold at all. [-X If you want to be a premium player, act like one. Secondly - they should credit you the shipping and send you a replacement (proving that you provide proof of purchase -to be fair). Let's hope they resolve this properly....

Re: Microguides and heavy stuff?
X2 on the necessity of titanium frames. However, Ive been switching to titanium frames on all my new rods, and some of my older ones simply because most of my rods see 1/2 of their time inshore fishing on the flats. Hopefully there will be no worry about corrosion in the future! Yeah - Ti is good i...

Re: ALPHAS ITO 103L AI HANDLE SIDE PLATE QUESTION
and....how about the braking system on the Sol and Ito....different/same? or can I swap the Ito braking to the sol plate? The magnets in the sideplates are the same. The braking on the spool is different. The ito spool is a bit more free. I have a Sol with a stock spool and a Sol with an ito spool ...

i have a plain old silver pixy's They have faithfully served me since 2001 or 2002. They wear their boat rash with pride! I always like posting this picture to make the tackle snobs cringe! Cuke: Why do you think the titanium guides will last longer than stainless steel framed ones???? <CRINGE> :do...

Re: Tubes: Casting or Spinning??
I'll be the weirdo - baitcasters...because they don't have line twist issues. Also, I like FC for contact baits like tubes, and FC does not mesh well with spinning gear. Some folks can use a FC leader with braid...however, that is inconvenient on Erie due to the frequent re-tying...zebras and all. I...

Aruku shad, yo-zuri and LV500s.
The SK red eyes have nice action, but the finish is fragile and the hardware rusts too easily. The last thing you want is a $5 bait rusting up better baits. Rust is a contagion in a plastic box.

This is a spinning blank that i have built into a custom baitcasting. sort of my anti-spinning rod for open water tubes, jigs, etc. I fish a lot of offshore structure for smallmouth and i like REALLY like this blank. Here are the specs of the build: St.croix 5S76MF blank 1.88 oz (RDA 400 grams with...

Re: Microguides and heavy stuff?
titanium framed micros are overkill... i personally just stay with the SS frames when using micros x2 You'll save very little weight with the Ti frames. I like SS/SiC for primarily braid applications (like frogging) and SS/Alconite for all the others. Not sure you'll get all the way down to 1/8oz w...
